The human hand looks silly. You give him lots of armour then leave his shooting hand without protection. And why change the colour from the scheme fans will relate too to what reminds me of an AMG Black edition Mercedes

Y'know, I'm starting to think that it might not be quite as bad as we all think. It's just that it won't have the grit or the tongue in cheek wit of the original.

Not being an 18 cert definitely doesn't help... Gotta sell dem toys.
That car bomb death scene looks like it's from a TV series.

Exactly. Had they shown that second trailer first, I might have said that this might not be as bad as I expected; but they didn't. The first trailer makes the film look naff, and that's what I expect it to be.

Why they've had to go with some stupid changes i.e the car bomb, Robocop is supposed to be a gritty film but get the feeling this is going to be a 15 if that.

The ninja physics looks worrying too. ie: Him flying around as if physics don't apply to him. I'm sure the remaining parts of his human biology would love those huge g-forces/impacts! Never mind the logic, it looks cool!

One of the most important lines in the first movie and they have done away with it, the moment you could see how they treated Murphy nothing more than a chunk of meat.

The original film would not pass as an 18 these days. Probably more a 15.

Which is what a PG-13 passes as here, more or less. So yeah...

It's less "ROBO"-Cop and more "Man in Body Armour"-Cop

While I did like some of nods to the original, like being out quick-drawn when using the original style opening thigh gun holster, the reason the original big clunky suit worked was that, as a robot, he could take much more punishment than the new man in a suit version would be able to so it didn't matter if he was slower to get his gun out. I can't see the new version being able to take abuse in the chest from an ED-209 style drone like the original could.

Having said that the scene in the new version in the empty warehouse vs the drone figures did look pretty cool. It's just a shame the film's taken the RoboCop name rather than something else as I think it's going to get a bruising from Critics/fans etc just like 90% of all these recent "reboots".

I'm bumping this thread for some news on the original folks.

Apparently a 4K restoration has been done & its being re-released this month on Blu-ray (Steelbook available too) £15.50 on the rainforest. Years ago I would've replaced my copy without hesitation, I'm not so sure these days as I would watch it once & it would sit there on my shelf gathering dust afterwards.

Won't it look awful in 4k thought? I heard even the 1080 blu ray shows flaws in the suit

I think he means the film was rescanned at 4K, which means the BD re-release (downscaled to 1080p) will be of a higher quality than the original.

Hopefully it will look better than the original BD. I was quite impressed with the quality of the Total Recall: Mind Bending Edition. It was a huge improvement over the previous release, so it will be great if this release of RoboCop can be of similar improvement. Does **** me off though that with older films there is release after release, until eventually they actually bother to do a proper decent one.

Yep, totally agree.

Having said all that, it's probably a lot to do with most people not being bothered or noticing the problems with it in the first place, and the studios getting away doing the bare minimum. It does irritate me though when they deliberately do this. But then again, from the studio's point of view, it's probably more about getting people to double/triple dip. God knows how many versions of the same one film I have in DVD and Blu-ray!

They said and even Karl ( second name) modelled their version of Dredd in that film very much on Robo.

So yes, the same team would make a fantastic reboot, but it hard to know if an 18 cert would sell, seeing how Dredd only broke even.
