Nice,do I need to buy anything special to connect to my 7990 to get the 1440? displayport cable or anything? Or does it come with everything needed? Is it the same as the glossy one with the euro power cable and is there an adaptor for that in it?

Heres hoping that I get as lucky with this samsung as I did with my venerable syncmaster 245b, Which has done me proud for years, with Zero dead pixels and no bleed....

what this like for gaming ?

Don't be silly, you are gonna need a beef system to play modern games in native res of 2560x1440 at a crappy 60hz. Couldnt' think of anything worse, much better sticking to the 1080p at 120hz much better for pc gaming currently.

good for desktop and production and everything else though.

So,if you have a slower system that cant throw modern games around at over 60 fps would there be any point buying a 120hz monitor anyway?

Not arguing or anything, just a question, i'm just interested in the answer.

As i play pretty casual and all genres a little bit this is right for me.

I wouldn't call Bolton silly. At the moment there is a compromise to be had with monitors; you can either have fast response and refresh or high resolution, better colours and wider viewing. Whether you choose speed or quality is a personal preference. The Samsung panel is one of the best Quad HD monitors for gaming if picture quality is what you are looking for.

For those of you considering this monitor don't discount the glossy version.

I must admit I was a little nervous of going for a monitor with a glossy screen as all my previous monitors have been matt. Granted I have not seen the matt version running but the glossy Samsung is so much sharper and vivid than my previous matt monitor (a HP LP2475w) or countless others I have used at work. The vibrant wet-look colours are simple gorgeous. Yes you do get reflections, especially on blacks, but it is nothing that spoils the overall wow factor of the screen.

If you have light problems in your room go for the matt one, otherwise the glossy offers a real step change.

One other thing to watch out for with WQHD is the DPI setting. Windows 8.1 automatically sets the DPI to what it calls the optimum setting, but doesn't tell you what this is. However if you tick the "Let me choose one scaling level..." checkbox this then reveals that Windows 8.1 deems that a scaling factor of 125% is optimal for this monitor. The trouble is many apps and even some Windows UI elements are not DPI aware and so just end up looking badly scaled and mushy. Setting the scaling to 100% cleans this up nicely.

Guys

A heads up, we have very limited number of these and I know we have the last ever batch.

SO!

You must buy this weekend if you want one at this price as Monday the price is shooting up over £100 as we will easily sell what we have before Christmas at a far higher price.

We are merely doing this price for you guys ONLY, don't miss out.

On the 970D we have secured all the stock and have a lot more of it, so we can maintain the aggressive pricing on that one long term. :)

Well buying a good screen is most likely going to outlast most your computer components, its good to get something that is going to last longer.

And also just because your current system can't push "modern games around at over 60 fps " doesn't mean your pc/gfx card can't drive a 120hz lcd for desktop/2d stuff.. and there you will notice a difference in smooth and responsiveness.. but its not that necessary just nicer depends what you do, for me it makes a big difference. Writing web browsing.. perceivablly not so much.. photoshop, cad, production work, just general OS gui responsiveness etc yes a noticeable difference.

I used to like the 100hz crt back in the day before they started being phased out from market and replaced with the 60hz lcd for years which was just ***** painful and annoying, so I jumped on the 120hz lcd and have never looked back. 60hz needs to be replaced as the mainstream standard its just bare minimum and goes along with that ******** statement from idiots who think your eyes only see at most 30fps etc ...and other such retarded misconceptions along the same lines. Nothing wrong with 60hz but you won't enjoy going back after using 120hz.

As i play pretty casual and all genres a little bit this is right for me.

120+Hz panels tend to be designed and engineered with the gamer in mind so they tend to have lower latency and other features, etc. that give better results in gaming than your typical random 60Hz panel - even when not running 60+fps they tend to have less issues with residual imaging and/or better image stability on fast scene changes i.e. if you spin your character around 180 degrees in a game.

This monitor to me is fine for gaming on though, games don't run horribly on it or anything. To be honest nothing stopping you going dual screens anyway one for games and this for everything else :D
