780Ti official review thread

+1

The 780TI it 5 or 7% faster than the 290X.

This with the 290X on a ref- cooler thats throttling it, and a memory clock of 1250Mhz

It has 1500Mhz rated Memory IC's on it, why they set it up to run at 1250 i don't know but they did the same thing with early Tahiti chips.

Board partners or later revisions should run at 1500Mhz brining the memory bandwidth up to 384Gbs

An AIB cooler will allow it to run consistently at 1Ghz or perhaps a bit higher with a factory overclock.

I would like to see someone put 1750Mhz rated IC's on it, that would bring the Bandwidth to a whopping 448Gbs

I like 780TI, i respect it, but its not a 290X killer, far from it. i'm not hearing any fat lady in a tent singing yet. ;)

Nvidia seems happy capitalizing on this confusing state of affairs, and is positioning GeForce GTX 780 Ti as the fastest single-GPU board out there…consistently. The degree to which it wins depends on how AMD’s flagship is used. Sometimes the 780 Ti takes a single-digit-percent win; other times it’s 30%+ faster. Whether Nvidia’s advantage is worthwhile depends on what you’d see from your R9 290X.

If you take the lower end of the scale and an AMD optimised game, the 780Ti is probably only 5% or 7% (no 6%?) faster.

I do love to see the fastest card and no care for price conscious. 780Ti is balls out the fastest single GPU on the planet and yer, it comes at a premium but if you are price conscious, grab a 290 when they have custom coolers available.

It doesn't need to kill anything as far as I'm concerned. Faster is faster :D.

Price conscious need not apply :D

I have just found out about the step-up program, if I'm eligable I'm having a classified TI for sure.

I should have waited for the Classifieds but I'm an idiot, basically.

In fairness if they drop a 4.5/6gb version I'll grab those instead maybe.

Live for the moment and all that. Did I read about some 'black' edition Ti as well? Although I'm sure classi will be amazing as is.

I believe it is Gregg yes, not heard of any other manufacturer doing this.

Ah,well if I had heard of it before I would defo of gone with EVGA. I now know what my next brand of GPU will be then!

Well it's my first venture into it and I'm utterly impressed, I am a big fan of the classified for OC'ing but I was very impressed with the MSI Gaming Ed for the silence.

I don't get it, I thought all the hysteria about 4gb at 4k had some ground until I saw that. Granted I don't understand the tech behind GPU's as well as some on here. I did use to dismiss 4k as far too early (as I think it is) but I know as soon as it comes down a smidge I'll likely be jumping in.

If you take a large selection of games and the average it all out.

R9 290X Uber = 92% @ 1080P vs 780Ti 100%
R9 290X Uber = 93% @ 1600P vs 780Ti 100%

A better cooler and a proper memory clock and there is nothing in it between the 290X and 780TI

The Hexus review i pointed at was even less than that.

It's a shame EVGA do not do the ATI cards as well. That said, I expect the Classified ti to be a fair bit above AMD offering.

They are pretty close arn't they Humbug, with the extra cost of the Ti being mostly a better cooler, free games and general Nvidia pricing. I've no doubt once AMD bring out the 3rd party coolers there wont be much in it at all but the prices will rise a bit for the 290x as is the case with most custom cooled cards. At this point in time, the Nvidia card is the more attractive option for me because of noise/cooling/games though but its going to be an interesting couple of month and jan/feb should be good for buyers once both sides have games and non ref cards to compete against
