The 780TI it 5 or 7% faster than the 290X.
This with the 290X on a ref- cooler thats throttling it, and a memory clock of 1250Mhz
It has 1500Mhz rated Memory IC's on it, why they set it up to run at 1250 i don't know but they did the same thing with early Tahiti chips.
Board partners or later revisions should run at 1500Mhz brining the memory bandwidth up to 384Gbs
An AIB cooler will allow it to run consistently at 1Ghz or perhaps a bit higher with a factory overclock.
I would like to see someone put 1750Mhz rated IC's on it, that would bring the Bandwidth to a whopping 448Gbs
I like 780TI, i respect it, but its not a 290X killer, far from it. i'm not hearing any fat lady in a tent singing yet.![]()
Nvidia seems happy capitalizing on this confusing state of affairs, and is positioning GeForce GTX 780 Ti as the fastest single-GPU board out there…consistently. The degree to which it wins depends on how AMD’s flagship is used. Sometimes the 780 Ti takes a single-digit-percent win; other times it’s 30%+ faster. Whether Nvidia’s advantage is worthwhile depends on what you’d see from your R9 290X.
If you take the lower end of the scale and an AMD optimised game, the 780Ti is probably only 5% or 7% (no 6%?) faster.
