What's the best pay as you go network?

I'm in a weird situation.. currently on Virgin and wanted to transfer my old Virgin number to a new Virgin Micro Sim and their support lines are uselss, got some foreigners and they don't even know what I'm trying to ask and the guy has killed my Sim.

So I've lost like £5 worth of credit, my free text and data for this month & no phone to use [till I know what's going on]

Yep i'm with Ovivo on the Freedom plan. Although i only had to pay a one off £15 but got it back as credit. The one off payment is just to stop people getting a sim if they don't really plan on using it.

Interesting, can you get a PAC code via email? VM phone support is so bad.

Three PAYG's not bad just now.

Standard Rates are 3p calls, 2p texts, 1p per MB with 150 MB (30 day limit) free per top up. Once 3 have your credit card details you can top up a fiver at a time although the first payment has to be £10 minimum.

You can convert credit to add ons, the most obvious one being £15 for 300 minutes, 3000 texts and unlimited data (but no tethering and limited to 30 days).

This sort of thing annoys me. I know they're bonuses but like I'll top up £10 in a month then it always runs out at the worst time (normally start of a month) then I have to wait an entire month for my bonuses.

They should be applied as soon as you top up (which isn't the case with VM).

+1 to Ovivo if you're a light user, but I'm pretty sure the one off payment is £15, not £20 (which then gets credited back). You also get an extra £3 credit for porting your number over as well. So £18 credit in total in case you use up your monthly limits.

Googling around it seems the only way to get a PAC code from Virgin is by calling them...

Ovivo freedom plan

150 mins
250 text
500mb data

one off £20 payment which you get £15 back as credit.

And you never need to top up. They use Vodafone network.

so you mean, i put £20 creadit and the get £15 credited back and then every month
i get 150 min ect ect and never have to up again?

Yup. You will see some adverts when browsing the internet, but other than that it's brilliant for light users.

My Mrs has been using Ovivo network for over a year now. And she hasn't topped up yet. She's a light user (house phone gets bashed though) So for her its good enough.

Damn.. really don't want to talk to their support because half the time they sound like they are eating the microphone and I feel like a ***end asking to repeat.

It sounds so good as well as I would class myself as a light user.

Just ring up. And ask for the damn PAC code. Yes you may ot like it. But you need to go through that **** ....

Just man up.

Maybe give the Virgin forums a go, they probably won't be able to give you your PAC code but they may be able to help you out.

I would link to the right section but... my Virgin Media connection is playing up at the moment and calling up didn't help me either . Posted on the forums and a mod kindly gave me a date of when my connection should be back to normal...

surely there has to be a catch somewhere?

What happens when you 150min credit runs out? I am assuming they will have you card details and charge that?

or do you have to top up to use it after your 150min finishes?

The only catch is advertisements when you're using the browser every now and then. This is what pays for the free services. If you do go over the limit, then it will eat into your credit like a normal pay as you go SIM until the next month. And if you have no credit, then you won't be able to use it until you add more credit or wait for the next month.

No credit card details are required, I bought my ovivo sim using paypal, for some unknown reason I've not been using it over my Tesco sim only plan, having said that the wifes just been made redundant so might just give it to her that way saying her a little each month (well more like me lol)

I was a bit skeptical about Ovivo before signing up because it seemed too good to be true! But there really is no catch (other than the adverts which are only at the start of browsing and only on a 3G connection, no adverts on wifi, and you can 'skip' them but pressing 'back' on your phone). Been using it for 5 months now and had no problems. And I've only used £10 of my credit since the start!

They could really do some damage to the other networks with their PAYG customers, but people just aren't aware of them. If they done some aggressive marketing (or even just some marketing; have never seen an Ovivo ad around!) they could get a lot more customers than they do already.
