So I've built up my rig and was eager to press the magic on button, expecting some hiccups.

Low and behold I have at least two.

Firstly: PSU (or at least I think its the PSU).
There is a fairly noticeable grinding noise coming out of the case.
Thought it was the water cooler, but having disconnected it and all the fans, that just left the PSU fan.

Now is this normal for a PSU fan to be fairly loud and give out such a grinding noise? I'm not sure if I am being anal about this or whether this is normal for your average 850W Antec PSU?

Secondly: Aerocool X-Vision Fan Controller.
I have 3 fans connected to it (I didn't connect the CPU fan because it is already being controlled by the H100i water cooler).

All the RPM values go up only to 1000 RPM and voltage is 12V.
If I turn down the RPM by 100RPM increments, it does so down to 600 and then from 600 to 0.

Further, when it gets to 600, the fan turns off and the voltage drops to 0V.
So theres no, "inbetween". Im a little confused about this.

Shouldn't the RPM values go up to 2000 RPM and the like? And shouldn't the voltage drop incrementaly as you decrease the RPM levels ?

Apart from that, Im quite happy with the fan noise level, quieter than I thought, its just the damned PSU!

Hi.

How long you had the psu on for?

The reason I ask is bacause a couple of weeks ago another forum member had a similiar issue with his antec psu. I suggested thst he leave it running for a few days as the bearing fluid may not have gotten around the actual motor bearings completely and he did. After a weekend of use it corrected itself.

Try that and let me know in a few days :)

Wow. Great response thank you Ace Modder.
Ok then will try it.
But I have certainly pinned it to the PSU because I have turned everything else off except except the PSU and you can clearly hear it.
I will definitely give your recommendation a go. I do hope it works (will be a pain to have to RMA it!)

E: Can anyone assist concerning my second query?
E: AM - to answer your question. About 10mins?

Ok think I have solved the fan controller. Now its just the PSU.
I tell you I never thought the noise problem from this PC would be the the PSU! The H100... the case fans... the gfx cards.. All quiet (obviously not on load), but Im just a bit peeved that this PSU is grinding away, I do hope as AM said, the noise will subside after a few days?

I hope so too,

If not you can always RMA it.. Though like Ace said, give it a few days of working. :)

YOU. This is all your fault :D
(Actually no its not. Love this rig so far apart from the damned PSU!).

Would OCUK accept for me to return the unit back but minus some of the cables? I have tidied them all up in the case and it would be a right b****** to take them out again :(

Now. Time to install W7.

Me? Little old me?.

Like ace said give it the weekend and aee if it gets better. If it doesn't certainly RMA it. I think you'll need to send at the cable back too... Sorry.

This was the previous poster, and he will confirm that after a weekend of usage it cleared itself up. But of course if this doesn't feel free to RMA it back to OcUK.

Thanks AM.

So the system has been on all day and the noise is just as loud as it was this morning. Infact it is the most eminent noise coming from the case.
Infact I can hear it in the room next door (faintly).

Im just not sure if this is "normal" for an 850W PSU, or whether this is an abnormality/genuine fault.

On another note, I have a 750W Corsair PSU thats much quieter (in my other rig). Would this be able to handle a 4770k with 2 X R9 280Xs?
