Hi all, I have a question regarding fitting a Prolimatech MK-26 onto a regular 290. Overclockers currently are about to off ths item -

From what I understand the 290 series has massive cooling problems but also overclocks nicely. Now seen as the 290 is nearly £150 cheaper with very little in the way of performance in uber mode it seems like a bit of a bargain.

My question really is would it be worth picking up a 290 and fitting a custom cooler then overclocking or just not bother and use stock. I could also get a 290x but it doesn't seem worth the extra cost for performance I game at 1080p 120hz

I'd love to, I really would.

But I'm having some horrific problems lol.
Either the card's broken, drivers are messed up, one of the bios's I've used is messed up.

When I get gear at launch, I go mental with the benching and clocking.

Or my perfectly stable system has somehow broke.

As an fyi, when I reinstalled windows, football manager worked perfect ;p.
So drivers had messed up on my 7970

Lol. I'll never forgive you for having problems running football manager. You'll never live it down. Its one thing after another with you lad. :p
 
Ha.

I remember one of the results, I ran the 290x bios with my memory at 1500mhz.

I ran heaven 3.0 with gibbo's settings, guess how far it was behind the stock 290x?
 
I'm thinking of getting a 290 with the MK-26 but I hear heat sinks for the ram and VRM are not very good so heavy overclocking is harder specially for the memory. Only other option is getting better heat sinks for the VRM and ram? Not sure on this. Either this or just wait on vendors to release some good coolers on their cards. Not sure which will be best tbh.
