I think the new AMD cards without a CF bridge are scaling exactly the same as their NVidia counterparts with SLI bridges.

Now the big question is it time for a pizza?

If it was shared between consoles and PC (which it isn't), then it would still only give X amount of performance gains. Nobody is saying exactly what gains.

I have read users saying 30%, which seems a little OTT for me but I would only be guessing. An AMD spokesperson (or could have been Dice) did say that "If it was less than 5%, it wouldn't be worth doing", so expect over 5% performance.

Saved to my notepad :D

So you think bigger gains than 12.11 drivers... I like your style and I love your confidence even more :)

Of course AMD will look to benefit from their hardware being the one developed on first only a complete deluded fool would think that they wouldn't.

Not an option matey. I need a change and i need one now. ;)

Its not just about pure performance, its also image quality as well which drivers will do nothing for. Mantle could allow effects to be dialled up to 11 without the previous unplayable performance hit.

Your probably still better off waiting until non reference coolers come out from the vendors for 290/290x! Then let your money burn a hole in your pocket lol.

My bet is Mantle will only give about 5% in real use setups.

I am also sure there will be some AMD backed benchmarks with the settings tweaked to show mantle in a good light.

A good example of bench tweaking (nothing to do with mantle) would be using Heaven 3 to show that any recent AMD card has higher max fps than a Titan.

The 7990 is the faster card at the same money, its also huge with a big bulky cooler, it can be temperamental and its about subtle as a two tone Black and Red Humvee. its a beast of a GPU.

Which is why you should buy it.

If you feel the need to be Mr sensible, get the 290X with an after-market cooler.

Wouldn't say the coolers bulky really, long because of the card being a bit longer but nothing massive really.

Definitely think a 7990 would be a bad move from two nicely overclocked 7950s (though I do see why you'd like one instead).

290x would be tempting, but the price is high. If you think you'll crossfire, then 2x290s is amazing value but I'd want to wait for custom coolers.

One of the new cards is the way to go for something actually new - TrueAudio, plus the extra memory.

Matt's gone pre-emptive style on tommy(did you read my post last night?).

7990 won't keep you amused for long, it's more of the same.

290 vote from me, partly due to martini's(and others) comments though.

I think the 290's an absolute beast of a card in pure performance, and tremendous price/performance.

I can out bench lower clocks 290X's (Say 1100MHZ) so it's absolutely storming performance.

It's considerably cheaper=quicker to save up for CrossFire.;)

I will watch and see how much your Ice-q's will pocket you and swither some more whether to make the plunge myself, although...

...I haven't ruled out going to the dark side yet.:o

you know the 290x is the right choice. You can play with it now and then keep playing as it matures. Does seem like we will see more out of these cards in the future

LtMatt get a 290X with custom cooler. I sold one of the 7950s also since got a good offer.

And I know the type of the disease, because if Mantle works with Intel CPUs, going to upgrade to an 4930K, from the FX8350.

Someone from AMD did say a 5% OR 10% would be pointless.

I see what you mean. Its hard to argue with that performance from a stock 950mhz core 7990 tbh. A slight overclock at 1100 and those figures will climb much higher.

However this does reinforce my point from earlier that 290 crossfire is very immature at the moment.

What map on MP or section of SP did these benchmarks take place?
