Opening a bottle without a bottle opener

This is an essential life skill, it's easy to open them with any handheld object with a solid edge in the way you have described.

Edge of the door (hinge side). Open door, wedge bottle top in door jamb and close door slightly. Then prise top off.

call me thick, but how is a lighter any more effective than, well, anything small? Mentioned in the video and another post. Not aimed at anyone,

It's not any more effective, it's a tool that is normally in my pocket or a friends.

They also cost under a pound so it doesn't matter if it breaks.

grasp in left hand around the top. use a spoon in other hand to lever it off against your hand.

or use another bottle

or wedding ring, I use mine all the time for this

If you have 2 bottles then just open it with the second bottle. I'd be amazed if a quick google won't show a YouTube video or wikihow or something as it's very easy. Then you have a bottle cap to open the second bottle. Easy peasy

  • Grab Cup
  • Place Saop in Cup
  • Boil Kettle
  • Pour boiling water into Cup
  • Add Coppers (loose change) to the Mix
  • Add Silvers to taste
  • Drink

After that you won't need a beer. :)

When faced with a similar scenario (involving wine, not beers - schoolboy error not buying a screwtop!) I simply went down to reception and asked for a corkscrew. I guess some hotels might charge you corkage but it is somewhere I stay fairly regularly on business, so they know me.

All of my lighters are chewed up at the bottom from opening bottles. If, for any reason I don't have my lighter with me I'll grab a stranger, squeeze their nose until their mouth opens, jam the bottle top between their molars and yank downwards. Works every time and the drink helps to ease the pain of getting thumped afterwards.
