my pair arrived this afternoon,


just wanted to say to anyone that is sitting on the fence and thinking about a pair of these, get them bought. for the price they are absolutely brilliant. I would have to say their not a kick in the backside away from from my Mordaunt Shorts running in 2.0 through my onkyo 507.

very very pleased with my purchase and on TWO at £50 bargain.

be interesting to see what their like once they have a couple of hundred hours on them but its an impressive start so far


anyone wanting to ask any specific questions fire away.
 
I found after about 100 hours or so prolly a little less the low end had a good bit more presence - never going to be known for their bass but they are a little underwhelming on that aspect out the box. (Thats not what these speakers are about though).
 
I was poundering if I should buy it, as I have a bit of spare cash wanting to spend on audio. Was thinking of getting the Microlab FC360 5.1...but for the price of the Edifier 1600T Plus at just £50, I couldn't resist to buy a pair to have a play with it. May be I'll get a 5.1 set up another time :p

I wonder how the Edifier 1600T Plus would compare to my existing Creative Gigaworks T40 II...
 
I have used those Gigaworks T40 II...and i have the Edifiers, i think the Edifier 1600T are much better ...as in for either music or films ..but personally speaking i dont like either of them for games :)

I think we all know that for gaming, 2.0 is not as good as 2.1 provided that if both were decent :p

Look forward to receiving and testing out the 1600T on some movies and music tomorrow :D

ok so I received my 1600T yesterday. Didn't have much time to thoroughly test it yet but I had a quick test playing some music, as well as playing random scenes in Skyfall...and here's my initial impression:

Music- it seem to deliver a "cleaner" tone than my T40 II, as well as deliver much more details as well. I think it is very good for certain type of music, but probably not so much for the bass heavy types music. Turning the bass beyond 50% it seem to start to get distorted.

Movie (Skyfall)- my T40 II seem to do better than the 1600T for now (have to bare in mind that the 1600T has not been broken in yet). The 1600T don't have as much "punch", and the feeling of the low frequency is lacking as well as the bass is lacking solid impact is quite apparent comparing to the T40 II. At the explosion scenes, the 1600T felt more "distanced" and not as immense as the T40 II.

As I said, I haven't spent enough time to really testing the 1600T yet, but the initial impression is that for music (the types that you'd appreciate the details), it is definitely superior than T40 II; however, the T40 II is probably a better "all-rounder" multipurpose speakers. I am now considering the possibility of adding a dedicated subwoofer, as it should compensate the area which the 1600T is lacking.

For the price of the 1600T it is definitely well worth it (for music). But I think if people were to buy this speakers, they have to make sure they are buying it for the right purpose- as I said before, if people are more interested in gaming rather than music, they'd much better off getting a decent set of 2.1 speakers rather than the 1600T.

If other 1600T users got suggestions on better tweaking the speakers, it is most welcomed. At the moment I just leave the 1600T at home running for it to get broken in while I'm at work :D

I personally don't like having a subwoofer under the desk / on the floor for PC gaming, when you are sitting so close to the screen.

Hence why I opted for a 2.0 setup :D

But for console gaming / watching movies from a distance etc. then a dedicated subwoofer is probably going to be better.

The other thing with 2.0 vs 2.1 / 5.1 is that with the 2.1 / 5.1 setups, you have a terrible mid range unless you are going for £100+ speakers. In all the 2.1 / 5.1 setups I've had, (sub £100), the treble was quite tinny, and the bass was overpowering.

With a decent 2.0 system, the sound output is a lot more balanced imo.

So basically for me -> sitting close to monitor = 2.0, sitting far away = 2.1 / 5.1 / 7.1
 
ok another update on my impression on my 1600T.

I have left them running for around 10 hours while I was at work and not at home yesterday. Now the set sound more loosen up and noticably better than when I first had them on. I think the woofer is now not as stiff, and bass also don't sound distorted or as murky beyond 50% bass.

I also found that having these placed further away also sound better as well.

So all-in-all, for £50...I'm well-chuffed for having this set of speakers, and a definitely improvement over my T40 II (which I now use one of them as my center speaker for movies :p).
 
i took the plunge after reading this thread and wow am i impressed with them the sound is so much clearer in the mids than my old 2.1 system! highly rate these!!!

might have to upgrade my creative xfi titanium now!

i pluged the monitors in to my onbord sound and was inpressed used it for 2/3h then instaled the card and found it was a lot better, mostly listen to nin, but refence tracks like space man, and other 90's stuff was well nice, my set now lives on the mantle peice below the tv, and is used for when we watch movies or have geusts and want a bit music, and most people ask about them and end up geting a pair them self.
the set i got for my brother for his gararge/work shop, his complaint was it makes most car systems sound a bit plain!

Yeah give em a bit of time to loosen up the bass certainly improves but they are always going to be a little underwhelming in that department I found they rocked for watching stuff like game of thrones - especially the music they presented really well but something with a lot of gunplay is a bit weak.

Also as I've mentioned no doubt a few times they work best if they are stood atleast 5 inches clear of anything behind them and about level with the ears height wise.
 
It's true 1600T need time to loosen up. Just last week I ordered a second pair. I compared the brand new 1600T's to 2 month old 1600T's and there was quite a difference in sound. Amazing speakers for the £50 I paid, but they need time before they sound correct.
 
Looking for some info on connections/subwoofer.

Being a trancy fellow, these speakers are great, but lack deep bass. Can you connect a subwoofer to the 'B' out on the back of these? I only ask because most of the subwoofers I'm looking at have only output connectivity.
 
A bit odd that subwoofer doesn't have any input connections :p If it did you could connect both subwoofer and speakers to your soundcard, only problem is you will have to adjust volume on both so they match, then control volume using volume in Windows. It's not ideal but it works! So ideally you want a subwoofer that has both input/output connections :) What's your budget? I can throw some recommendations your way

Well, I guess sub (pardon the pun) £50. Not looking to host a rave, just something that can fill the gap :)
