*** The Official Playstation 4 (PS4) Thread ***

IGN have an article up confirming they too have had a faulty PS4 albeit after the update was installed.

I imagine someone's already posted this but not got time to search the thread.

Have read the same. All the more reason not to be an early adopter of any new console imo

They have warranty.. I very much doubt there will be any unordinary amounts of faulty consoles probably just the same as there was with the 360 and PS3. I remember getting RROD on my 360 2 months after getting it and having to send it off to Germany. More of a ball ache than shopto picking it up and replacing it straight away.

I was lucky my original 360 never RROD'd on me in the three years before I sold it, my 250gb slim obviously was fine. My original 80GB PS3 (2008) is still going strong 5 years later no ylod :)

Same here - I bought my PS3 when the console was first released (the 40GB model). It gets plenty of use - mostly for it's Blu Ray player these days, but it's never let me down.

And the amount of times it's got mega hot because someone shut the cabinet door and the fans are howling. Just goes to show don't assume they're all the same when you hear these stories.

Looks like putting in a SSD does make a noticeable difference:

Originally I said I'd get a hdd because I rather have the size than the speed, but now with all these mandatory installs or "caching" w/e and the PS4 designed to use the drive rather than the blu ray drive I am now rethinking my stance on the matter. Although all of those writes...

I don't think anyone doubted a SSD would make a difference, but does spending ~£250-£300 on a 500GB SSD (assuming you want like-for-like capacity) on top of what you're already paying for the console and games warrant a 10 second loadtime improvement? IMO a SSD of decent size is only viable if you're a) Crackers b) Loaded or c) Wait until SSD prices come down.

It's not like you're getting a worse experience than another PS4 owner out of the box.

I'm more interested in someone putting a SSHD in to see if that makes any noticeable difference, it will probably sit somewhere between the stock HDD and a SSD, so not sure that would be worth it either unless you are upgrading the stock HDD anyway.

Its making me rethink if to keep my pre-order now as it doesn't look like we will see any decent games for a few months, could be worth picking one up when they start to appear rather than have a console that has mediocre games at launch.

Exactly. At those prices we may as well consider a PC build instead.

Yeah, there's no way i'm spending all that money to save a tiny bit of time when loading games, some people with a lot of money and who are impatient might want to though :p

I'm thinking of getting a 1TB drive, but am also curious as to how much better a SSHD will be than a regular HDD.

Does switching to SSD not potentially have other issues potentialy? I vaguely remember reading in the past some stuff around SSDs and Consoles and that although initial load times were quicker it could screw up the timings for caching and streaming. In fact is some cases it was better to run a game from the DVD than to install it onto the HDD as the timings were set up to take that into account.

Could be making that up though, it's just a vague recollection and I'm sure things have moved on.
