**XBOX ONE** Official Thread

I will have to put mine above my tv so will use some strong double sided tape I have here. Only other place I could put it is on top of the X1 but that's not advisable right?

I have my TV mounted on a wall with a shelf just under it, I don't think this would leave enough space height wise to go under it, would the Kinect still work fine with the basic stuff if its sitting to the side of the TV rather than directly under it?

Isnt the base of the new Kinect a lot larger than the original, I mean the length is the same as the device where as the original had the little "leg" thing in the middle.

Why are you so confident it will? Its a cut down version of 4 , reviewers arent going to like that even with a new lick of paint, will be lucky to get an 8.

And judging from early stuff on dead Rising your be lucky that gets a 7!

And this is entirely the problem with reviews in the game industry. Why is a 8 considered an average game?

This isn't a dig at you, but just the industry as a whole... people are far to concerned with review scores when in reality it's just a personal opinion of how a game plays for that one person. Never mind the fact that if anything gets under an 80% it's considered garbage...

Completely agree. For me, an 8 is a great game that fans of the genre will really enjoy. A 9 is a fabulous game that everyone should try. A 7 is a good game that fans of the genre will like, but it's got a few problems. 5 and 6 means an average game. 4 and below generally means avoid. Some people are too hung up on the idea that if a game doesn't get a 9 or above, it's automatically not a great game.

Is it worth simply cancelling my pre-order or is it worth selling on ebay / online?

Decided to go with the PS4 purely based on the 720p nonsense.

I still dont understand with the internet why review scores even have weight. Far more interested in user reviews/experiences over individual 'publication' scores...

I don't think there is likely to be much shortage, unless someone especially wants a Day One Edition, so any profit will be small.

Personally if you don't want it I'd just cancel so it gets freed up for someone else.

I'd cancel it, why bother with the fees/postage and potential hassle that comes with it?

Even if you make £50 profit, I rather not have to spend time waiting for delivery, list it, package it up, drive down to post office, and then hope the other guy won't claim it is broken on delivery.

The reactions some people had online to GTA 5 not getting perfect scores, or anything under a 9/10 was frankly deplorable.

What's worse is that people are now relying on Metacritic (a weighted review aggregate... not an average) as the be all and end all. Remember Metacritic will add more weight to say Destructoid or IGN or Kotaku depending on how popular they are (or how much money they've thrown at them)... So small indie review sites have smaller weight in the algorithm.

....

Anyway... I'm still going to be clawing around the internet furiously for the next couple of weeks eagerly awaiting more PS4 and Xbox One hardware and game reviews, so I guess I can't complain too much.

I just wish people would remember that reviews are opinions; and peoples opinions differ.

Well it's unlikely you'd make a loss if you sold it online. Presuming it's the Day One Edition, you might get a few extra quid for it than normal.

I'd probably take the risk and stick it on ebay and see what you get for it. If previous launches are anything to go by you'll probably see some profit... but it all depends on how much shortage/demand there is.

im i likely to get a regular console if very.co.uk dont come good on the day? I can just lug a load of stuff downtown the next day and trade in if they screw me over friday.

Well considering Ebay fees are 10% of the final selling price it would have to sell for a decent amount to make it worthwhile. Then there is the hassle of dealing with the buyer if anything goes wrong.

I personally wouldn't bother.

Amazon.
I would but I've got two boys who are looking forward to Christmas. How can I tell them it's been cancelled? :p

Tell them you're changing religion and you are all now Jehovah's witnesses and you won't be celebrating Christmas anymore.
