Sister is wanting a laptop, usual stuff Facebook, shopping, skype putting pictures on (they have kid). It would have to be a laptop, they have a tablet which is useless really for storing photos and shopping.

Doesn't need to be ultra quick, but a decent HDD space and looks is obviously important.

Any ideas?

Asus X551CA 15.6-inch Notebook (Black) - (Intel Core i3 3217U 1.8GHz Processor, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD, DVDSM DL, LAN, WLAN, Webcam, Integrated Graphics, Windows 8 Home)

Going for £329 at most places.

How about a Netbook?

For portability, I've not really found anything that greatly betters my Acer AspireONE Netbook.
10" screen, 80GB HDD (can get ones with MUCH more), runs WinXP (and will probably do 7), 1.6GHz Intel Atom processor, 2Gb RAM, 3 x USB2.0, VGA port, 1 x SD and 1 x multi-card reader (great for camera cards), built-in webcam and mic (Skype), does internet, does photos, does movies, plays a surprising number of games.

Battery life about 4 hours, but a 7-hour one is available.
Light as a feather, so you can lie right back on the sofa or in bed and still use it one-handed!

Cost £220 when I bought it a few years ago, variants are about £170 new these days.
Was my first modern PC-type thing and served me admirably!

Having a look just now. TYhanks.

Thanks, but way too small. Needs to be a proper laptop. Portability is not an issue.
