*** The Official Playstation 4 (PS4) Thread ***

After reading the Gaf and the initial first hour when people had problems due to the masses it all seems really positive now and like everything is really smooth. Made me more excited than what I already were.

Hopefully it's just a faulty unit! I'm sure that kind of noise would have been reported by other people and places by now if it was widespread. Phew! :)

The 0.4% failure rate figure that's floating around suggests out of 1,000,000 (one million) 4,000 of them will be faulty.

Not bad if you ask me. Electronics fail. It's nothing new.

Exactly, and the fact this needs explaining on a PC hardware forum of all places is always deeply worrying.

Its just sentimentalism - ooh look. Its rubbish its got a fault. Oh look, one out of a million sounds like a dyson.. It must be rubbish.

Electronics fail, consoles have a history of failing. The PS4 will have a failure rate, its obvious, you've manufactured millions of units but some sadly will fail.

The youtube clip of the loud PS4, that has a fault sadly.

hey guys

As the ps4 currently cant support external hdd capacity is it possible that Sony may release a future update that will or would even an update not be possible?

Sony are aware of this, but whether they do it or not is another matter. Cant see why it couldnt be added in via firmware though

ps3ud0

Well seeing as they are adding CD and MP3 audio support and DLNA via a firmware update, adding external HD access should be possible. If they do this, well remains to be seen..

Early days yet.

Don't let them con you dude, he simply said the team were looking at ways to add if not that they will.

I can't see them supporting removable media. They have reasons for wiping the HDD each time it's inserted into a different console.

Yeah from what I've seen/read today everything seems to be pretty smooth.

You have to take into account some people are idiots though, I watched a stream this morning of someone setting up the console live on Twitch. First he said his console was DOA "the light is on and nothing on screen", after 10 minutes of messing and threatening to call Sony etc he realised he hadn't put the HDMI cable in..

I just spat a little coffee out! haha :D

I wonder what this generations "Cross game chat" failure will be?

MP3/DLNA support?
HDCP removal for capture devices?

Cant see there being anything like as 'substantial' as the cross game chat fiasco. Sony seem a lot more on the ball this generation - its safe to assume that MS caught Sony napping quite hard in relation to the online functionality previously - shouldnt happen again.
