Children In Need - How much have you donated?

If my money goes on someone's wages that's trying to make a child's life better then I'm happy. I really don't give a **** what you think

How about all the greedy cows on the receiving end of Children in Need forfeit one hour's worth of their wage to provide their professional service to just one client who cant afford it?

I'm sceptical that If I where to give any money, that it would actually reach a child in need. Better off giving your time and energy to help someone yourself.

If OCUK is representative of the UK as a whole then it's no surprise the country is going down the drain.

And yet CiN had a record-breaking year for donations  Clearly a forum dedicated to computer geeks isn't representative of the whole UK.

Nothing, If the Government can afford to waste billions on a pointless train set and send millions to other countries as aid as they are to poor but can afford to send a space ship to mars they should be ensuring there are no children in need especially in the UK.

Nope. Whilst it's a good cause, I've donate plenty this year to a handful of charities that mean more to me.

Secondly I don't really watch tv and have absolutely 0 interest in celebrities I'm afraid, I know very little about them or anything to do with the and have no interest to want to know more.

Our local supermarket has a Christmas tree in the lobby. It is adorned with little cards with the names of local children on them - children who are young carers or have special needs (and so on). Each child has asked for an item, and you take away the card, buy the gift and return it to the tree, wrapped. I think this is a lovely, touching, and efficient idea as your money goes directly to the child.

The one we chose wants a board game, bless her, but we'll be putting in more than that, hopefully.

Nothing pee's me off more than rich people putting their names to charities rather than their money.

Bono, makes billions, when it comes to charity, the people who have paid him billions to listen to his crap music and go to his concerts.. he asks THEM to donate. So someone pays £100 to go see Bono, then Bono tries to guilt that person into spending another £20 on charity even though say the average person to go see him is on £25k a year, while he has a billion that he won't donate himself.

Fair enough to the exceedingly few celebrities that give away the majority of their cash THEN use their name to help generate more. But most of this charity generating focus should be on other rich people, not poor people.

What's worse is that Bono is seen as some kind of saint for all his work, while he merely uses it to reinforce his good name and get richer. Rather than people rightly deciding he's a greedy **** and refusing to give him any more money, they decide he's such a great person that they like him more, and pay even more for his tours, which go up in price every time.

Rich people using guilt to induce charity donations, then they can go around acting like they give out millions, when really very few give out any of their own money.

If we look at how much Children in need make, ignoring what they waste on pampering celebrities and how much of the cash is wasted on pointless spending on the least needful places, Bono could donate a half a years salary and basically dwarf Children in need's charity raising total...... get 50 guys like Bono together, turn them over and shake them, the loose change would generate more. Seriously though 50 guys at Bono's level could probably triple the entire uk's "charity" spending in total, and not a single one of them would notice the cash missing..... that is what's insane.

At least Gates has given billions away already and doesn't plan to just give his entire fortune to his kids but is spending billions more every year on charity.

Totally agree.

Nothing ****'s me off more than incredibly rich people trying to get you to donate money.
