Black mold on bedroom ceiling

My spare bedroom ceiling (north facing) is covered in black mold. It is only in this room and not in the other rooms. It only started growing since I had uPVC windows put in 6 years ago.

What is the best way to treat it and to stop it coming back?

I think it is just on the surface. I had loft insulation fitted couple of months ago and they never mentioned that it had gone through the ceiling into the loft at all.

Had loft insulation fitted so should be warmer this winter. Might have to start opening the window for a few hours a day too.
 
Wash it off with hot water with some bleach added.

Check your loft insulation, make sureit was laid up to the eaves but not blocking them or laid short.

If laid short, you get cold spots & condensation, mould on the ceiling, stuff into the eaves you get condensation on the felt in the attic.

Bleach doesn't kill mould it just bleaches it, you need to raise the PH for it to actually have any sterilising power, add some vinegar to the bleach then scrub it off with that.
 
I'd say it was a ventilation problem. Do the new windows have trickle vents? Give it a wipe down with some Polycell mold killer.
 
Windows don't have trickle vents. Will need to check loft insulation but this mold has been there long before it was laid.
 
What seems odd is that the mold seems to be running in straight lines as if its following the joists although the spacing looks too close together for joists.

Depends on the joist spacing,which depend on size of timber used for them, that is why I told op to check loft insulation, might be missing, therefore giving you cold spots.

Warm air in room comes into contact with cold ceiling equals condensation & mould.
But more ventilation would also help.
