Can you tell the time?

My 20 year old sister can't tell the time either, yet my daughter was taught (by myself) at 6 years old and can read the time from a clock with no numbers on.

My sister revels in her stupidity though, and treats any show of intelligence in others as ''them being a geek''.

Some people are just dumb.

In halls at uni, one girl had the revelation that the numbers on an analogue clock progress in order, and correspond to the time. Before that staggering moment, she had simply memorised the meanings of the various positions.
We never let her get over it.

It was at uni, are you sure she wasn't just really drunk and spouting drivel? :D

I heard a market stall guy say that he couldn't tell the time on the main clock in the town square the other day while in Ipswich. I din't think it was because it was analogue, more because it was roman numerals.. Either way, it was pretty shocking.

Christ, reading an analogue clock is like basic of the basic. I'm hesitant to believe people can't do it, since its just looking at the numbers the arrows are pointing at ..

But it's not though, is it. 20 past the hour is at the 4. For the hours, yes it's logical, but for the minutes it can be confusing.

For twenty past four you have to be able to visualise the 20 over the 4 etc and clocks don't say that.

Surely you just have to be able to times by 5.

OP, basic English is much easier than telling the time on an analogue clock, but you seem to be struggling with that...

Basic English or being able to read the time from an analogue chock. Which one is more relevant?

Sorry, i do struggle with spelling at times, im not perfect.

That's fair enough, but if you do, then you don't have much right to laugh at others for struggling with other basic stuff though, right?

The fact is i can spell 98% of words (in my vocabulary) perfectly.

And most of the time type them too. :)

Just because i struggle with some words doesn't mean i can't spell FULL STOP.. does it?

I actually struggled with this until a funny age of around 10 or something, it was the past and to that confused me. Of course I could say "its five 35" but then the 35 becomes 25 to which really got my goat.

Both are acceptable formats. You aren't wrong if you say 'Five forty-five' instead of 'Quarter to six'

I can, but I have a weird anxiety problem where when someone asks me something my mind can just go blank. Which has happened before when being asked the time. Really embarrassing standing there looking at your watch and your mind is just blank and the hands and number mean nothing.

I was appalled but then, it dawned on me, that I can't recite the alphabet. Who am I to judge?

Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.
