So we can ascertain that anyone upgrading the HDD for a speed boost is pretty much a mentalist. (£££ on an SSD for a few seconds?)

If it's for more storage though, which I would assume is most peoples motive, then it makes a lot more sense.

No really; if you're upgrading the HDD anyway then paying a little extra for a hybrid drive seems fairly worthwhile. Of course, if you're not interested in performance gains then there are standard slower drives available too, so everyone's happy.

That was the point of my questioning. What performance gains?

I saw someone mentioned in game loading as well as initial loading, which gives the argument more weight.

But If it's really just to save a few seconds on start up/initial loads, then I can't consider that a performance gain worth anything.

XB1 reviews are in.

Very happy with opting for PS4 first up.

That UI on the XB1 is not what is was made out to be. Like a more cluttered Windows 8 menu. No thanks.

Kinect voice commands that don't work too well.

Extra £80 for what exactly?

Well i have been to-ing and fro-ing between the ps4 and xbone, i think the fact mp3 and media streaming are going to be supported has swayed it for me in favor of the ps4!

Returns around 1% now but they are saying quite a few are damaged in transit
Sony has responded to reports of various issues with PlayStation 4 hardware. Speaking to IGN, a Sony representative provided the following statement:

“There have been several issues reported, which leads us to believe there isn’t a singular problem that could impact a broader percentage of PS4 units. We also understand that some units were reportedly damaged during shipping. The number of affected PS4 systems is less than 1%, which represents a very small percentage of total units shipped to date and is within the expected range for a new product introduction. We understand the frustration of consumers that have had a problem and are working with them and our retail partners to help troubleshoot issues and ensure affected units are exchanged.”

In addition, Sony put to rest the idea that hardware troubles are becoming widespread. Despite some complaints in Amazon customer reviews, Sony tells us that “there have been various issues reported to date, but the overall number of returns is extremely small.”
Sony also responded to “rumors online stating that PlayStation customer service is informing people that it will take 6 weeks to get a replacement unit,” explaining to IGN that, “Those rumors are false. Our customer support team is exchanging units with new replacements immediately and with expedited shipping.”

Our customer support team is exchanging units with new replacements immediately and with expedited shipping.

There have been at least one million PlayStation 4s sold in North America to date, meaning up to 10,000 units could be affected by hardware issues, or more if Sony's sales have continued to climb since launch. PlayStation 4 won't launch in Europe or Australia until later this month, and will launch in Japan in February 2014.

Reports of problems with PlayStation 4 hardware began to emerge just prior to launch, the most notable being a “blinking blue light” issue that seems to be tied to faulty HDMI ports. Other issues include a blinking red power light related to overheating.

On Sunday, Sony posted a troubleshooting guide for users suffering from the blinking blue light issue, advising that customers post in its support forums for help, or call customer service at 1-800-345-SONY (1-800-345-7669).

Nice :) So do you reckon they'll ship them out on the 27th or 28th?

My Amazon order specifically says that it will be despatched on the 27th.

I don't know if it's a mistake, or if it's because I was one of the first orders. I ordered it within hours of it going up on the site the first day. And maybe the first batch is getting sent to couriers the day before and the rest the following day.

Who knows. Shouldn't matter like as no deliveries should arrive on the 28th. I'd be ****ed if it did as it's a 90 minute round trip to pick up from nearest courier depots if i'm not in!

I wouldn't put too much stock in the estimated dispatch date (and it makes absolutely no difference to you anyway). They'll arrive on the 29th... assuming that the courier doesn't break down, lose your package, or just decide not to bother delivering it, of course :)

Anyone considering replacing the 500GB HDD inside the PS4 for a bigger drive or possibly a hybrid SSD? Some good performance gains to be had, just more expense on top of the console.

I'm considering it after swapping a PS3 drive out after using the console for a couple of years and how much of a pain it was transferring content!
