AOC UK Monitors Direct Communication

As I mentioned on another thread (not trying to site pimp here, I think it's very relevant) I have a very thorough review of the AOC g2460Pqu on my website (see signature). The reason AOC don't promote Nvidia 3D Vision 2 or LightBoost is because the monitor supports neither! I was misinformed by AOC initially that it would support 3D Vision, LightBoost etc. and this 'confirmation' was echoed by BlurBusters in the article the AOC rep here is referring to. However; my own testing and further discussion with AOC confirmed that it isn't licensed to use such features. It is purely 2D only, with the extra refresh rate simply facilitating a more fluid 2D experience - one let down somewhat by the lacklustre pixel responsiveness at the high refresh rates.

As an aside I would like to say that I have been very impressed by a lot of AOC monitors I've tested and they do strike a very good balance between quality and affordability. I think that the g2460Pqu is one of their less stellar products to be honest, outshone by the competition in the very important area (for such a screen) of responsiveness. Credit where credit is due, this is their first attempt at such a monitor and they do at least deliver slightly superior image quality to the ASUS and BenQ alternatives. I've also found AOC an absolute joy to work with from a PR perspective, which is more than can be said for most other manufacturers. I'm definitely excited to see what they can bring to the table next year on the gaming monitor front.

Knock out a 120/240hz va panel to match the eizo but at an acceptable price and youl have a winner on your hands

In a nut shell - can I use the ToastyX StrobeLight application with this? Not looking for 3D - more after the lightboost/motion blur reduction.

unfortunately at this time, this is technically impossible, unless someone comes up with some sort of over clocking chip for IPS they will always be the slowest response panels, so would be pointless making 120Hz 6ms :-(

*Cough* I beg to differ, everyone that's seen my monitor has instantly gone "Where can I get one from"

I'll admit, i've not timed the response time on mine but I certainly wouldn't be able to put up with a slow one. Might just be as mine has no scaler in it which helps with this.

I don't do nutshells, read my 5000 word review. :p

Just for you - no LightBoost support, ToastyX or otherwise.

hi all,

can't watch Chile destroy us any longer! :-(

Answer from HQ is not clear but i trust PCM2 has tried the necessary steps to install 3D Vision and lightboost to see if the monitor is compatible and it is not just a case of not on a compatible list and so I am going with him :-(

I must admit, i thought anything 120Hz would be ready but we simply chose not to get/pay for the honour and that users could make it happen......anyway like AOC, I am still learning however from this point on I am going to be more thorough in my technical training :-)

There's a few other models too which can support the refresh rate required but lack the NVIDIA certification and Lightboost backlight as a result too. Iiyama GH2773 and Eizo FG2421 spring to mind as other examples

Why are there no larger res TN panels?

I likes my fps games quick and dirty but more resolution would be glorious

TN panels don't offer any practical responsiveness benefits over IPS with well-tuned pixel overdrive at 60Hz. Due to the heavy influence of eye movement on motion blur the pixel response times only have to be ~8ms or less for motion clarity that's as good as you'll get at 60Hz. Got a detailed article on the way to explain this concept in much greater depth. There is something to be said for wanting a broader range of very low input lag 2560 x 1440 models, though, and more choice is always a nice thing (some users hate IPS glow, for example).

It'll be on my website when it's done (link in signature). Feel free to follow on Twitter or whatever to be notified when it's published. ;)

Changed my mind, your site makes it more difficult to decide :p

27" 1080p 120/144Hz vs 29" 2560x1080 vs eyefinity 3x1080p 60Hz

AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

:D

Choices... Cruel, cruel choices! :p

Perhaps you could narrow down your options by thinking about your GPU (what model is it?), the games you play and the frame rate you get on those games and at what resolution. That can make some options more or less appealing than others. Also you may have a budget in mind as well, or at least an amount you'd prefer not to go over if possible. :)
