Goodbye Winamp :(

i don't get the new players one bit. winamp simply has play/pause/next etc buttons and your chosen playlist below. i literally need nothing else from my player.

i've tried google music lately and it's fine, however i can't seem to find a way to use it as an app on it's own without chrome being needed?

It's sad how we forget about things like WinAmp, it was quality back in the day. Most of us may have moved on to other software and forgotten about it until now, makes you think...

Like Foobar, MusicBee requires a level of customisation to get it how you like it :)

That looks absolutely horrific.

This is my Winamp, and this is how straightforward I like my music player to be. I haven't changed this since 2002.

I think you'll find that yours is the horrific outdated one visually lol but it's about what it does for your usage above all else. My screenshot is maximised of course for the purpose of the screenshot.

The original (black and green) skin is the best, tried foobar so many times and its just horrible.
But they're all redundant these days. Phones, tablets, win8 all have built in music apps. Which are more than capable.

Indeed. If MusicBee could be AS strimmed down a migration would at least be considerable.

I can't see Winamp not going open source, esp as the petition will reach its signature target in a few minutes, by the pace it's going at.

I'd be very surprised if they did, unless it's just for various patents AOL might hold?

Used Winamp as my main PC/Android music player due to various problems with other players, so annoyed it's finally closing.

Depends what kind of price they can get it at. Even if you have to go to winamp.microsoft.com to be able to download it then that would be a certain amount of good publicity for microsoft and worth a price. It's not a competition to any of microsofts products as far as I know.

Long time Winamp user after. Must have been using it since 2003. Stuck with it for the great plugins you can get and format support it had. Will still use it until it no longer works.

signature target? what does that even mean? it was 5000 last time i checked but now it's 7500. i'm guessing it's some arbitrary amount set by whoever started the petition. in this day and age of social media, the progress has been ridiculously slow.

and opening the source won't be as straight forward as people think it is. i bet there's plenty of code they couldn't share even if they wanted to. i suppose they could strip out those bits but that would take time, effort and money. in short, not likely.

i'll take the microsoft story with a large dose of salt as well. :p

Still use it, ain't nothing better or the plugins it has.

Hopefully get it open source then it can live as the king still, its been left to die with ****** AOL for years now.
