A more relaxed Johan talks us through Mantle. A must watch for enthusiasts.

Johan Andersson from EA/DICE, makers of Battlefield 4™, talks about AMD's Mantle API, why he's so excited about it, and what he believes it means for the future of PC games. Included are the PC game development challenges that led Andersson to ask for Mantle, and a discussion of how he thinks Mantle addresses those challenges. He goes into particular detail on the features of Battlefield 4™ that are optimized for AMD Radeon™ GPUs and how the game, along with the Frostbite 3 game engine, leverages Mantle to achieve a new level of PC gaming performance.

I love the way he says the pc is an amazing platform, yet the pc was not a lead platform in Battlefield 3 or 4, blaggers.

I watched my girlfriends brother playing BF4 on the Xbox 360. I have to say considering what a pile of turd an xbox is, it looks pretty damn good. Don't get me wrong, it was nothing compared to Ultra 1440p preset on my pc but nonetheless it looked good. There were no edges. The xbox AA/FXAA settings obviously do a good job. The biggest difference between PC/Xbox is the lighting. No fancy sun effects, no sun light through bushes that we get treated to etc. No doubt none of the fancy storm effects and what not either, as well as proper HBAO and AA. If it looked that good on a 360, i bet it will look much better on a PS4/Xbox 1 with a 7870 AMD gpu inside.

Why am i saying all this? Mantle!! If xbox 360 can get the game looking and running that well on a flippin pile of turd like an xbox 360. What can Mantle do with a 7990 or a 290X??

Yes Tony. I'll never forget my peasant 7950's. :D :p

Peasant they may be, but they still beat stock SLI 780's in the firestrike benchmark. :D

I like the way he says the consoles are good because they can code more directly to the GPU with a thinner driver.
And the consoles have shown that using this approach they can not hold 60fps at under 1080p.
I can't wait to see if they bring that across to the PC. :)
