Is it silly to buy windows 7 now?

I've had no end of problems with windows 8 and still don't like it. However it feels a bit silly to be going back to windows 7.

What's your opinion on the matter? I can pick up win 7 professional (retail boxed) for £60 delivered.

Should I just soldier on with win 8?

I've used W7 since release and its comfortably the best version yet. I'll admit i've only used W8 a little on my mums laptop but it seems to be utter gash.

I would go for it, I ended up buying the Win8 upgrade disc when it first launched. I gave it a few months and ended up going back to Windows 7. Just because 8 is out doesn't mean that 7 is obsolete. :)

I think I might just copy paste the post I just made in the other thread about my opinion on win8.1 because I think you should "just soldier on with win 8".

I bought win8.1 yesterday.

Installed it and the first thing I did was install start8 (startmenu mod) and 8gadgets (lets you use win7 gadgets on win8 desktop). Then I suppressed the metro interface as much as I could. Reason I bought it was that I need to learn how it all works so I can fix problems for other people that also have it, I would have been happy to stay with win7, but so far I have not been disappointed and I am happy I made the switch.

Oh and "Win + X" is the best hotkey EVER (and with start8 can make the menu appear at your mouse instead of the bottom left which makes it even better!)

This is coming from someone that judged windows 8 by it's cover and is now admitting they were wrong to.

I would suggest that if you are suppressing Metro as much as possible you are really using an updated version of Win7 rather than win8 :D

(only kidding - but I seriously hate Win8, I will have to learn it at some point for the same reasons as you mentioned, but Im not interested currently and will wait until 8.1 or 8.2 is completely stable before putting it on hardware I dont NEED day to day)

Made the jump few months ago.
All the cries about start menu are irrelevant, all you have to do is press windows+D and pressing windows key and starting typing gets you anywhere you want quicker than any clicking on the menus.

Happy so far to be honest haven't had any trouble with it at all.

How long have you been using Win8 for? Have you given it enough of a chance?

I wouldn't bother with them, anyone still crying about Metro is doing nothing but show they lack any serious google fu, as it's not hard to replace the Metro if they hated it that much.

Though you have a valid point, you're also quite wrong. Nobody should have to suppress/replace what is considered to be the main feature of Win8 just so that it is usable for them. Another thing people do not tend to realize is that Win 8 is not designed for desktop computing. It's designed for mobile computing, more specifically tablets. Microsoft even said it was in their reveal/demos.

My answer to the OP is definitely. £60 is quite the bargain imo and you should just jump on the chance. You're evidently not enjoying 8 so hop on back to 7. It's probably more suited for everyday desktop use than 8 is anyways.

Not silly at all, We have a lot of customers still wanting windows 7 on new equipment.

It's what people are comfortable with, and i tend to agree.

Some people just don't like change. If we didn't try anything new we'd still be living in caves.

We could do with more info like what are the main issues or is it just hating the new UI?....Have you tried updating to Win8.1 or installed a third party button mod like ClassicShell,it might save you 60 quid which you could use for other things like games or night out etc.

However to answer your last part,no it's not silly if you are happy going back to a four years old OS ie Win7,but even better if you can save 60 quid and be happy ;) .

It's more their specialist software won't support win 8 yet so they have to stay on 7 for full support.

win 7 is gona be the new xp, everyone will stick on it until they stop the support for it, iv spent a bit of time familiarizing myself with windows 8, and i still do not like it, win 7 is (in my opinion) the best choice

I got rid of XP years ago for Linux(way superior and cheaper) always makes me laugh when people blame Win8(nothing really wrong with 8 however).

i agree linux is a fantastic o/s but for your average user, its not very useful, your average user would see a command prompt and go all hands to panic, which as u know is a large portion of getting some software/updates for things, i havnt personally used linux for a few years, but definately see what you are saying
