be very careful mate you will be accused of trolling soon for having a somewhat justified opinion ;)

if say activision tried the same thing chris roberts has people would be up in arms with burning pitchforks

It seems I pretty much already have :p

I can understand why people will defend it, there is a lot of money invested on what is potentially a great idea. The problem is that at the moment that is all it is, a grand idea.

you know all the big dev companies are watching star citizen or at least the shareholders ;) and wondering they their companies aren't doing the same thing.

I'd happily pledge to a car game though if someone wanted to make a GT style game for the pc.

I pledged to this and look forward to it but I'm not keen on all the ship sales

The pay to win argument might hold water if:

a) The majority of pledgers actually gave a crap about the issue and wanted the game. (Considering how many people have pledged, who really has the upper hand now? LTI isn't going to make a huge difference if the insurance mechanic of making the player wait longer for a ship is in place)

b) All there will be is dogfighting (which there won't be)

c) You could continue to buy ships/stuff with real cash after the game is released (which you can't?)

d) The use of skill is not important when flying ships

Anyone complaining about ships sales etc etc should keep calm and imagine Star Citizen trying to draw a huge player base, which in turn, will make for a more interesting game, IMO.

I find that a play to win argument, whilst a fair argument at times (Planetside 2 for instance), is generally made by people who get extremely butthurt when they can't win, rather than enjoying the game for what is on offer. In the case of Star Citizen, people are making pledges before a game is even out - so why shouldn't they reap the rewards of a nice ship and other little extras for when it does come out?

As for the money Chris Roberts may or may not have - get a grip folks. I wouldn't even sink all that money in to a project - that would be dumb as ****.

I just can't see that working out well, other than for a laugh

well the wiki page makes it sound like a marine transport ship
Larger than a bomber but smaller than a ship of the line, corvettes occupy an interesting space in the pantheon of warships. While they lack the heavy armor and the capital weaponry of a cruiser, corvettes are more maneuverable and are highly configurable. Even the least expensive models feature numerous upgrade slots and multiple hard points for turrets and missiles. Corvettes are also frequently used for boarding actions; a single ship can support a team of marines capable of taking the fight to the decks of larger warships and stations.
it will be able to hold 3 single seater ships as well according to the wiki

Crew (max) 755
surely that can't be right.

I know they are supposed to be massive but they said the instances would probably only be around 100 ships so I don't see anywhere near that number of players on one.

maybe the npc crew of one would be 755 people but I'm assuming a real player crew will just be a skeleton crew

I'm guessing that while players might be boarding another ship and fighting it out on deck.. I can just go blow up both there ships while they are preoccupied right?

Really interesting to see just how well the cryengine can be modified for this level of gameplay.

You have to remember that the TCS Tiger's Claw, was a Bengal Class Strike Carrier, that featured in the original Wing Commander games, and as such, is NOT a small ship, at 700m in length, and supported the entire 88th Fighter Wing, which consisted of;

  • Killer Bee Squadron (Light, primarily flew Hornets)
  • Star Slayer Squadron (Heavy, primarily flew Raptors)
  • Blue Devil Squadron (Medium, primarily flew Scimitars)
  • Black Lion Squadron (Medium, primarily flew Rapiers)

While I expect that the Bengal class that features in star citizen, will be a much smaller vessel, it may well be that it is designed in such a way that only a large fleet, would really ever want one for moving all their ships around.

Not to mention, a ship that size, would need a bridge simulator all of its own.
