Hi all im looking for some help my son is wanting a gaming pc for xmas or bits for it could someone help with parts. He has asked me for 17-4770 asus z87 pro and a gtx 770 i was on the pc builder but trying to look for parts to finish build but im lost can someone maybe post a list to go with what he has gave me as members of the family are going to buy parts aswell or if the parts he has gave me are not any good thanks

Mind if i mess around with the specs a little bit to get the best bang for your buck so to speak? also whats the budget?

any help welcome as for budget im really not sure he has money saved up to complete what he doesnt get for xmas as cost far to much for me as 1 gift sorry cant be much help those were the 3 parts he wrote down

There's nothing particulalrly wrong with the ASUS board, but there are arguably better boards (for gaming) at around the same price, and similar boards for a bit less. If he wants it because it looks nice, go for it.

A budget would help a lot :D

Are those the three parts (CPU, GPU, Mobo) you'll be getting him, or will you be buying more?

The parts are good! but if he is not looking at using multiple gpu's or overclocking to the extreme then these can be waste.

The build in my first post are just as good bar the motherboard does not do SLI & Crossfire or comes with inbuilt WI-FI. Motherboard does come with a free cooler and is a good overclocker.

I would change the card to something with more Vram for much higher lifespan, as we are approaching the 2gb of vram limit with many games now. Unfortunately the premium you pay for the 4gb version of the 770 is just unjustifiable.

For the same price as the 770 2gb you can grab a R9-280x which has 3gb of Vram and is more powerful. If your son plays BF4 he will also gain the benefit of mantle in December when it is patched into the game.

yes i was looking in to buying these 3 parts but grandparents were maybe going to buy 1 aswell then he would need to finish himself he has bought a case so far budget is hard as dont know how much these cost but if you think there is better parts the same as he gave me at price then i will ask him about them and see what he thinks

Thanks. Looks like you won't need to buy any extra fans, which is nice. If his comes with a red LED fan in the front (like the one on the OcUK site), we've surely got to be looking at a red themed build.

or more expensive: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-563-AS&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=2574

or more expensive: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-323-AS&groupid=701&catid=56
or more expensive and louder but better: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-337-SP&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1752
