Virgin Media Discussion Thread

anyone else having problems downloading and viewing videos? downloads take longer that it used to and when viewing videos from ted, youtube or for a course im doing the videos lagg play a bit then lag again. its started last week and has gotten worse.

I got my 120Mbps service installed last week and it's been brilliant ever since! I'm in area 20 - I live 5 mins from Overclockers ;) and even though I was very hesitant with getting the service, I'm happy I did. I have a discount through work so we get Broadband XXXL, TV XL and Phone XL for £50 per month. The SuperHub 2 is not the best though, the wireless seems very unstable - Is there any advice someone would give?

Area code 20? My area code is 20 and I'm all the way down at the South Coast - Are there multiple area code matches?

Superhub Wireless isn't good.

Only people with the discount from either working for VM or being one of the selected friends of someone that does, right?
Apparently not, just normal customers like you and I. (A posted screenshot will be a few pages back) The deals were obtained via retentions, which goes to show some of the deals you can get. They are trying to keep your custom; it shows how far you can go as them getting some money from you is better than you giving it to somebody else.

Do we need to tell them we are thinking of switching to someone else for this? It would be nice to reduce my VM bill.

A month before your contract date ends, call retentions and just say you want to cancel, routinely they will ask why, you can tell them that your bills are too high and that you are going to somebody else, they will ask who and how much, you don't need to tell them. They will generally give you some offer. It's up to you whether to accept it or haggle some more, though it's good to know what people have been getting before.

Thanks but I have no idea when my contract is due to end :(. I signed up 2 years ago this month, any ideas?

Edit: Just looked at minimum contract lengths and they are 9, 12 or 18 months depending on package. I guess that means I'm now outside my contract period and can't try get a deal through retentions?

You're most likely outside so let the haggling commence! You can always call them and ask to confirm when you're contract was over.

Do a little research in this thread and see what people have been getting so you know what is realistic to ask for, see this post here http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=25059131&postcount=8543

2 years ago? You must be out of contract then I reckon.

You can call up retentions and try and get a deal.

Thanks, I'll do some research then get in touch with them :).
I know I won't be able to get them as low as that post though. Right now I'm paying £61.99 per month for 100Mb (should be 120), TV L (I think) with Tivo and Phone M.

Received my price increase letter yesterday morning. Just rang up Virgin Media.

Current deal 30mb broadband and free evening weekend calls for £24

Manage to get a new deal for £17 for first 6 months then £23 for the remaining 6 months. Same package. Which I'm more then happy with. And speed increase in April.

I'm happy with it.

It's nuts how every change tries to tie you into a contract. I tried to cancel the phone and TV (M so free but not used) and just keep the broadband while we wait for FTTC to let us order. The system wouldn't let him do that without tying me into a new contract for the broadband only. He ended up applying a credit to the account to bring it down to the £35 the BB would be on it's own for this month but it's crazy how it works.

That's only the case if you are going from a bundle to a single product - if you have 2 single products (say broadband & tv) and cancel TV, it will leave your contract on broadband untouched.

Just went through with the order of 60mb and weekend calls, question regarding the engineer.

He/she installs the router at a location of your choice? Ideally I would want the router placed in my bedroom and wired up to my laptop rather than use Wifi or have to wire it up myself.

Depends on the engineer you get I think. I asked to have mine next to my PC (opposite end of the same room they put it in), they refused to put it there. Instead I had to trail an ethernet cable to my PC.

I also asked about them making the phone sockets upstairs work (already wired in anyway) and they were going to charge £100 for that (they said it counted as an additional line even though it would be the same number for both phones), ended up getting a set of wireless phones for £20 instead.

had the engineer round on the 21st due to MDD errors, he checked the levels and the cables etc, it seems the MDD's was due to the work being done on the 14th in my area (the high utilisation). but he also said i'm getting a lot of post RS errors and said they should be all 0. so he booked another engineer to come on the 28th to redo the cable that comes in my house, because they had to put a joiner on it due to a gardener cut throw it before, I asked him if they could move wall box from the living room in to my bedroom and he said that shouldn't be a problem so on 28th hopefully they'll do it...

even tho they saying the work for the high utilisation issue has been done on the 14th November, my speed is still dropping to 44-78Mb after 4pm, but in the morning it's perfect, I get full speed 120Mb+.

so it's clear the work haven't been fixed correctly... grrrrr

Anyone from Tamworth on Virgin?

I was with them about 18 months ago and left due to constantly having no Internet.

I'm looking at getting a faster connection and Virgin is my only choice, as I can only get 40MB fibre at the moment.

Hey guys, I have just broadband, no TV or phone. I noticed that broadband (just broadband with no TV or phone) offers for new customers goes to 'up to 100Mb', yet when I log in to VM, it says I can double my 60Mb to 120Mb, for £7.50 more. So what are VM actually offering, 120Mb or 100Mb?
