Just bought a air compressor from local tool shop on offer with kit for inflating tyres. Now just read a few things that seem to suggest you can't use it for inflating bike tyres. Can anyone clarify whether compressor is fine for road bike tyres?

Probably not.
A car tyre (which i assume is what it's designed for?) takes 20-30psi.
A road bike tyre needs over 100psi.

I would guess so, my ciggy lighter car tyre compressor thing is fine upto 250psi.

It's presta so I don't use it on my road bike but it pumps my mtb shocks upto 200psi no probs.

How fast are you expecting it to go? People use those little co2 canister inflaters which are pretty quick.

I just presume that due to being quite powerful it will put a lot of air out on each press of trigger and been suggested that could over inflate tyre and blow it

Better to do it in a tyre you don't mind losing. Outside a tyre isn't going to be representative of what it's like inflating it in the proper place.
