Just bought a laptop with what to me seems like a silly amount of ram.

Question is there any benifit to going above 16Gb when gaming is the only intensive task it will perform.

Thinking of pulling half of it to make back some pennies

If it has 32 then pull out half of it and keep 16, you really wont notice any difference. :)

On my sig rig I went from 8GB to 24GB to 8GB to 16GB. I never really noticed any real difference. Since I put 16GB in I have only exceeded 8GB once. I can't remember what I was doing but something crazy in Blender and CS I think. :p

No difference, it better to go for good quality ram, good 8gb can out performance 16gb

for example in test gskill ares 8gb were on 103 fps and crucial balistix 16gb 104fps

laptop is not for gaming :P

It is more down to the memory spec than the 'quality', it is also entirely dependant on what you are doing. Obviously here we are talking about 16GB vs 32GB of the same RAM.

And you can't say that laptop's aren't for gaming. That is just your opinion, and it isn't even a reasonable one. That is just so not true. Silly. :p

I know someone with a laptop that stomps any desktop I've ever used into the ground.

It's a custom Clevo P370SM.
i7 4800MQ (3.7GHz quad core hyperthreaded)
16GB 1866MHz Corsair Vengeance
GTX780M 4GB SLI
120GB MSATA SSD + 960GB SATA SSD
2TB HDD

Okay so question is, 8gb of 2933mhz ram or 16gb of 2133mhz I cant decide lol..........................................

The first option has flashy orange lights xD.

neither. 8GB of 2133MHz. :p

If it has to be one or the other then 16GB of 2133MHz.

3GHz RAM is just stupidly expensive and utterly pointless.

you looking at performance only

I'm looking at price per performance, reliability, upgredability ;), monitorsizeability, and dropping juice on laptop keyboard and computer keyboard.

Had one, graphic went faulty replacement was very expensive, never again ;)

32GB of RAM is way more than enough at this stage, games rarely pass beyond 8GB at the moment even at max. settings with all sorts of processes running. I have 16GB of RAM in my system and even that is slightly overkill for gaming; however I program as well so I need a fair amount of RAM.

16GB is kind of useful if your multi boxing eve clients (or other games) I've pushed 8GB in some cases with ultra settings in some games if I don't close down other programs I'm running also though I suspect some of that is cached and could be freed if needed.
