The "maximum bang per buck" £1.5k challenge

If we are going for fastish cars.

Fiat Coupe Turbo
Mr2 Turbo
Classic WRX Turbo
Astra GSI
RX8

Might find a few rotten sheds like:

Supra
Skyline

Sensible options though, See post #4

As much as I could list the potential problems all day long, it has to be a Clio 172 of some description. You won't beat the bang for buck easily. As long as you pick one up with decent service history. They're a bit sluggish low down especially if you're used to a blown car but once they get going they're awesome fun, can rev the nuts off them. One of the last pocket rockets for sure.

Yup, or the staple of my automotive diet... old Golfs

With £1500 you could make quite an awesome old Golf

theres 2 4 door ABF conversions on ebay for 1k at the moment , ones on bike carbs but has some tacky mods. the other has the usual rust bubbling on the back but even has the widetrack and big brakes conversion

real struggle to get more fun for that money. be as quick as a 172 but with a £30 and one hour of your time belt change

I dare say you could buy a mk3 gti for £500 and spend the other grand on a 20vt conversion. If you could get a BAM lump in the budget it'd be pretty dam quick for the money.
