As the PS4 thread is really just the stock/delivery update thread I thought I'd start a new one to discuss what we'd like in future updates.
It seems pretty obvious that like most software these days, the PS4's operating system was released in an unfinished state and is missing things we were promised by Sony and also things that were just expected to be there. Here's what I'm hoping for

Menu UI
- A way to move and organise or group content, like we could with games on the PS3s XMB.
- Ability to customise background and icon/font theme like on PS3
- There should be a menu icon or folder for recorded videos and screenshots rather than Settings > Manage storage.
- Pressing X should show/play a screenshot/video, rather than having to press options then preview

Notifications
- When a notification pops up, the PS button should be context-sensitive. So if a popup says 'XYZ sent you a friends request', pressing the PS button should take you straight to that request. Same for downloads, trophies etc etc. Like Xbox live, basically.

Friends
- I don't want the console to display my full name in place of my PSN name. Despite unticking this in FB sync etc, there appears to be no way to remove it.
- Show what game a friend is currently playing underneath their name on the friends list. Can't believe it doesn't already do this. It does do this apparently, just me thinking it doesn't!
- Sony advertised the ability to live-watch and 'takeover' a friends game controls to help with tricky sections etc. This is either missing or so well hidden that I've not found it.
- Why does it have to 'sync' trophies?

Social & Sharing
- Uploading of recorded game videos to youtube. Dropbox would be nice but unlikely.
- Ability to copy/transfer recorded game videos and uncompressed screenshots to USB
- You can log in to FB, so why not add the option to see which of your FB friends also have a PSN account and add them to your friends list?

Audio
- There is no way to output audio via multiple sources like there was on the PS3, for example sending game audio to the DS4s headphone output means no audio over HDMI. (I use a capture device for streaming etc, so this would be handy)
- Background noise cancellation for mics would be good, like Xbox Live.

Video
- Sony promised no HDCP on game output, but it isn't the case. Would be nice for streamers so they don't have to use external HDCP removing solutions.
- Recorded game videos are a little buggy sometimes. Pressing share should capture the last 15 minutes, but sometimes it is a random 15 minutes of gameplay from some time ago...

Media
- Support for audio and video playback via USB, DLNA etc.

Apps
- Browser is slow and juddery when scrolling
- Browser, touchpad....... this one should be obvious?!
- Searching in the Playstation Store is terrible. Just use the standard on-screen keyboard rather than that weird scrolling list of letters.
- PS Store wastes a whole 'page' in the featured section by showing PS+ subscription options if you're already subscribed.

General
- The game should pause when the DS4 runs out of battery (which is far quicker than the DS3)
- Network throughput seems quite poor, wired or wireless. 5GHz wireless would have been nice, but not something a patch could add unless the hardware already supports it.

Probably some other bits I've forgotten about. What would you like to see added/fixed?

It does do this? O.o (Using you as an example Nimdork xD) Unless you meant something different and I am missing the point!

Have to say, I'm never likely to use a console's web browser for any length of time when I've got a phone or tablet sat next to me that does the job much better, but I was amazed you couldn't use the touchpad. It seems one of the most obvious applications.

Hmmm.... not sure why I thought it didn't do this?! Happily corrected :)

Yeah this is a big annoyance. Trying to find a HDMI splitter sold in the UK which removes HDCP is a nightmare. Luckily a member of these forums gave me a heads up on such a device so I've got one on the way. It's irritating though.

Alternatively, they could sort the server/bitrate settings out on the Share button method of streaming to Twitch. It's basically useless as the settings used on the Share button are completely incompatible with Twitch and the stream becomes pixelated and laggy.

I use one from the rainforest site, but would prefer not to have to. Any powered HDMI splitter is going to introduce (however miniscule) some video latency. I think someone worked out the very quickest HDMI splitters to add 16ms or something. Seems petty but I was looking forward to being able to record directly.

And agree with you on the second point. I've viewed a few direct PS4 streams on twitch and they look awful compared to externally captured solutions. You'd have thought Sony would want to show their consoles graphical power as best as possible.

It doesn't show your name to anyone else, you will still see your full name but that's it, everyone else will see your PSN if that's what you've chosen.

I use multiple outputs with it, I have my Astro's connected via the Optical and I still get sound over HDMI at the same time if I wish..

I dont think you missed anything i would like to see.
It ****es me off that i still have to copy movies to memory stick to play on my tv instead of streaming over LAN or copying to ps4 hdd !!!

And where is the faking flash player in internet browser !!!!

Does anyone know if you can stop the I sold trying to output 7.1? I've only got a 5.1 system and I can't see any option to change it.

That is the one thing that I'm hoping to be implemented by the time I pick a PS4 up. I currently use my PS3 as a media device, and don't want to have both consoles taking up the limited space on my stand.
