Is it only women or men aswell that like the central heating wacked up?

@ OP, tell your sisters to just set the valve on their rooms radiators to a comfortable setting, then they wont need to have the window open.

Maybe the house hasn't had the radiators fitted with thermostatic valves? It's a good idea to have it done, but I know a lot of people don't bother as they don't realise how much money it could save them.

Do thermostatic valves have much of an effect on a small flat which has a remote thermostat situated in the middle of the flat controlling the boiler?

I have all my valves at maximum because of the above.

I have no central heating, because it's 27c here :p Not always true though, my partner loves being cold - possibly because experiencing it in the UK was such a novelty for her, but we both tend to just prefer blankets if necessary. I used to use heating to keep the pipes from freezing, and that was about it, but then I was stingy about bills :p

I set mine on in the morning usually 23/25c for a few hours before work and then again in the evening before the kids get a bath then off again when they are in bed. The in-laws however will have it on all day and night.

This is why i dislike going back to parents, its insane, it's always set to like 24c, twenty ***** four. As soon as they go to be the patio door gets thrown open and can watch a film with out dying of heat stroke.

Currently sat in a nice comfortable 20c in shorts and T-shirt. Plenty warm enough and thermostat is set at 16 and if get cold it goes upto 17. But then where the thermostat is, is always colder than most other rooms.

Im back living at the parent due to a psycho ex.... and i have turned off the radiator in my room... they have the heating on all the damn time its like being on holiday!

I used to get in major arguments for turning the heating of when it got to 26.

"Oh but I have poor circulation"
"The house is hotter than a British summers day. Line with it."

My gf is the same. Often came home to the heating at 25-27 degrees so i superglued two plastic rods inside the thermostat dial. Now it cant be turned past 20. She hasn't died yet so can't be that bad :D

Humans adjust bloodflow to some extent in response to temperature, with less blood near the outside when colder. Women tend to do so a bit more than men and so tend to be colder at the same temperature. There's a lot of individual variation, of course, but there's an overall trend. Evolutionary adaptation to pregnancy, maybe.

Where do you live? Even at this time of year my flat never falls below 15c, even with the heating off. It's always a good ten degrees higher inside than outside.

At the moment, oregon. -21*C outside right now.
My apartment is alWays warmer than outside but the insulation isn't great because generally winters are mild. Being 10C warmer than outside when the daytime max is -7 and the nightime low -25 doesn't help.

The hesitant in this place sucks old analogue thermostats. Thought I set a temp of about 15*C but came home and it it nearer 7*C. Heating on now on max, fire is going. Supposed to hit -25 tonight, recorder breaking cold for the area.

I have no central heating in my flat, just electric heaters (they're modern ones, so fairly efficient) but I'm a girl in the "put a jumper/onesie/blanket on" club because it's only me paying the bill.

Everything in my flat is electric (hot water boiler included) and I've managed to keep the electric bill under £30 a month. Survived last winter like that too.

I'll put the heating on if I've got visitors coming, or if I need to dry some washing, but even then it's only on for a bit. I'm always moaning when I go to the parents how hot it is as well.

Just wanted to balance things out and say there are some sensible women out there too, just cos there's no other bugger paying my bills :D

no central heating here and have never had it.
I just heat the room im in when its cold.
don't see the point of heating the hall/stairs n landing as there only to go from room to room.
my ex would have her house that hot i'd be sweating just sitting watching tv lol
and she would say its just right.
I do work outside all year round so do have a high tolerance for the cold

I hate to think what my heating bill would be if I had it at 30C, so I tend to put it to 18C and find that nice enough to be without a jumper.
I bet with every person in this thread, the person who keeps turning it up is not the one paying the bills.

I love lying on the sofa with one of those <£10 Primark blankets, but if my heating is over 18C I am far too hot.

Currently I'm sat here and it's 20°c in this room. I'm wearing a t-shirt and a pair of jeans. To me it's 'just right'.

The others in the house complain that it's not warm enough but since I'm the only one who understands how to use the program settings on the boiler and the "constant" button 'mysteriously' got broke a while ago they have to bend to my will.

Muahahahaha
