Scots teacher struck off after admitting to having sex with pupil, 17

It's maybe an issue of professionalism and being sacked from her job is possibly the right thing - but I wouldn't consider what she did as being in any shape or form a sex crime.

Its against the sexual offences act, its without doubt a sex crime. So the lads 17, how long has she known or taught him ? She might have been grooming him for years for all we know...

I thought it was every school boys dream?

I haven't seen the teacher in question but....my old French teacher wow!!!!

I bet she's about 65 now :(

Edit. Just seen the teacher...I would :)

She has been stupid tho. Personally don't see anything too bad, but as said, position of trust, what did she think was gonna happen?
17 boy was gonna keep it quiet?

Well yes, it most evidently is a sex crime given that she was found guilty and put on the sex offenders register. But that doesn't change that I don't consider what she did a sex crime, there's been no suggestion of grooming - they're even living together now!

Agreed - but it was definitely right to sack her.

However, I guess with being a teacher, having sexual contact with a pupil is considered a sex crime owing to your influencing position?

Besides at 17 you're not mature enough to know any different - hormones and all. She should have not done anything.

That's fine...but what she did IS a sex crime, opinions aside, that's simply what it is and so it should be. As has already been said, she is in a position of trust and could have known this guy for years.

You can't punish people on an individual basis, if this was for eg about a teacher that had known the "victim" for 5+ years is it ok then ?
