I saw the first Hobbit film in the cinema, and wasn't impressed (I was ****ed). Second time round at home was a much better viewing experience. Still, it lacked the immersion the original film bought
All the LOTR films are over hyped really, much like Nolan's Batman. After a few viewings you spot the errors etc and the magic is lost. These films need to immerse you into their world. I don't feel that anymore. It's just watching a film now.
Another example is Avatar. When I saw Avatar for the first time I was OMG, now I'm like ah Avatar is on the telly...Zzzz
Avatar is good after a toke or two though..the colours get to meI can't watch it sober though, it's uber boring now. Film4 goes through a stage where they're showing it at least twice a month.
So basically you can't appreciate any film until you are either high on illegal drugs or smashed out of your face with alcohol....

I leave this snippet of info. I own over 3000 movies. Everyone has been viewed multiple times without the uses of any drug (be it legal or illegal).

Yep uptight, all off us.
Everyone I know who pays good money too see a film absolutely loves drunk idiots in the cinema with them because they enhance the experience.
Especially at films such as The Hobbit or the The Desolation of Smaug which run for 2.5 - 3 hours.
I can think of nothing better than having the movie 'improved' by a bunch of louts with their joyful nature and colourful language selection, my daughter particularly enjoys being in the same room as them.
In fact thinking about it, surely getting smashed and having a 'toke' is a pre-cursor to enjoying a film........innit.
Back on topic I've just read a review from a journalist who was as the premier and it's very positive so my hopes for this a little greater now.

Only just discovered these, this one is 2 days old. Pretty cool to watch, didn't realise they actually had LOADS of gold coins for filming figured it would just be CGI

I had reservations when they said they were splitting the book into two films, I didn't realise they were turning it into three!
However, I will go and see it with an open and optimistic mind.
I'm assuming they will take content from The Silmarillion and the LOTR appendices to fill in the gaps between the Hobbit and LOTR.

You say that as if you haven't seen An Unexpected Journey?
Two films I can understand, but I thought that when they announced there would be three films of around 2h 30mins+, that's a step too far. Having seen AUJ, it is too long for what is essentially a third of what is a relatively short book. LotR really needed more than three films, not The Hobbit. At least a film per book, so six in total.
Jackson can't use The Silmarillion as The Tolkien Estate owns the rights, and considering they don't like what Jackson has done with Tolkien's work, it seems he will never get his hands on them. I think their hold on the rights runs out in 2043, so I've read anyway. You've assumed right though that content from the appendices will be used to bridge the gap.
