mavity (2013)

Worst movie of the year contender and that's being generous.

If you want to see a whiny, crying, heavy breathing woman in space for 90 minutes this is for you.

Your cry for attention worked! Here I am responding... Now go away?

Although i think worst movie of the year is a bit over the top, for me I think it is in no way deserving the acclaimed it is getting. To many ridiculous plot errors, really detached me from enjoying it, and as he said her whiny crying heavy breathing (especially when she was on 0% o2) was a step to far. Off the top of my head I can think of 3 or 4 things that would not be possible and for me, if you going to make a film so specific then the research and realism needs to be tantamount to the story.

Still haven't seen it yet, but i must.
But i hear theres massive issues on reality. Mainly orbit mechanics :( why cant films just do 5seconds of research.
I hear theres a joke about its not rocket science just burn towards earth. Hmm perhaps you should have done the rocket science and burnt retrograde and not towards earth.

No problem there... It has been incredibly hyped up, and I can understand how it might not work for some. There are indeed loads of technical issues with it depending how forgiving or not you are...

What I have an issue with are the silly troll like cries, "worst film contender" that we saw a few posts further up. No thought behind it, just a childish cry for attention!

Most of them are necessary to make the plot work. ie: Space stations close to each other, or near to satellite orbits etc.

For me the biggest is at a pivotal moment in the film which actually shows something which make no sense in newtonian physics at all - And it could have with a simple adjustment :(

You guys take thins WAY too seriously. You must be a real hoot to be around :p

I wish there were more IMAX (like the BFI one in Waterloo) cinemas - I'd choose them over a regular cinema, they're not really expensive, then again the cinema is such a cheap experience (other than the **** food they serve there) - it's just a shame they're so crowded at times.

I don't know if I imagine remembering this but I saw a scene from a trailer or a review or something, it was Sandra Bullock's character being spun round in a big circle and coming past the camera, she was screaming 'Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahh' and the sound of her voice got louder as she approached the camera and quieter as she receded. If that is really in the film, it's pretty funny.

You mean the Doppler effect?

Anyway, user reviews are always interesting - It amazes me how some people see a film so differently and have polar opposite views.

It may be my own lack of understanding about zero G physics that made me jump up on my high horse and cause me to dislike it of my own accord.

The first instant it happened was when he was messing about on his jetpack thing, like Nasa would allow that, however I can let that go for enjoyment. (that's just me being pedantic :D)
But then when the satellite hits she starts spinning uncontrollably, Ok!! fair, but then she start to slow down?? Is that right?? She had no way to equalise the spin with her suit so shouldn't she just continue to endlessly spin.

Then it was more silly when he found her, I suppose she might glow being white, but she was a long way away. I let that slip, but then the oxygen content at 0% and shes gasping like a mental patient. She also says, You should let me go, I'm only slowing you down (whilst being towed) huh???? Once he tugs her she will be moving at the same speed as him with no need for assistance until he needs to correct their direction near the ISS. Also the fact they hit the ISS and all other stations at massive speed. His jet pack isn't that powerful, they would have merely bumped into it.

All that in the first 20mins. I just wanted to shout at the screen.

I had similar thoughts to you as it went along.

But I just pushed them aside and enjoyed the story and sheer visual and audio nirvana.

Cracking film, a must see in the cinema.

Doppler is to do with pitch, not volume.

I don't remember that bit. The sound is interesting, though, as it does well to convey what the actors would hear in their position, rather than what you would hear as an observer. That would sound like an error, though, if the volume were varying as she moved.

Sandra Bullock does space - why oh why didn't I see the complete load of tripe coming prior to paying to watch this. Even the missus wanted to go half way through :(
