So we have to put ourselves on a 'Weirdo likes adult content list' to get stuff unlocked, should be opt-in only. Madness, glad I not anywhere near BT, scummy scum.

I can honestly say I couldn't care less about this. So you have to opt in to access adult content - big deal, this is the 21st century not the 19th when people were ashamed of their sexual urges and pretended they didn't have them.

Unfortunatly there are still way too many people rooted in 19th century attitudes, it is somewhat a bigger deal when you have to deal with family members who are not particularly open minded.

Why would you tell your family members? Oh I guess you mean living with your parents and it's their name on the broadband bill. That sucks but it should only be for a few years more. A bit of self-discipline will do this generation some good imo. When I were a lad the only "adult content" I could access was those recorded phone lines in the back of the local paper, needless to say rationing was strictly in place in case the phone bill went too high and my old man went through the itemised list in detail :D

Exactly.

Kids these days are much more smarter with technology compared with a kid from a decade ago. If one doesn't know how to access porn, there is a 100% chance he knows someone who does....

Therefore the only person this is really affecting is poor old grampa Joe who's living with his daughter who will have his favourite legitimate porn site blocked and will not be asking his daughter to get it unblocked :(:(:( **** this evil government.

I feel old saying this but we were bypassing the school censors 14-18 years ago as whole classes...

It's going to do nothing to stop kids looking at porn. One quick google for a VPN/proxy and they will be away.

This is a prime example of how much old people actually know about the internet. Young people are far more computer savvy than the bunch of 40-50 year olds thinking up these things.

Various people have different family or personal/social circumstances.

My connection (BT FTTC) is under my name plus I have a backup non-BT ADSL connection and mobile connections with content filtering disabled. But I have some idea what it can be like when dealing withi this subject and closed minded people even when your not the one asking for it to be disabled.

Big deal. You can turn the porn on if you want to.

And BT acquires a database of all customers who want to watch porn or visit "dubious" websites. They don't even had to look up the URLs you hit to work out if you actually are a bit dodgy. Soon every other ISP will have a similar database. Within a year a secret court order will force these to be handed over to the government (assuming this isn't already in place - it may well be). Think of is a a self-subscribed Sex Offenders List, because that's how the Police will see it. And the tabloids if you try to protest. Can I hear you say "presumption of innocence"? Probably not, because this removes another bit of it.

Has all of this happened already with mobile phones? If not, why not? Adult content filters have been standard on mobiles for donkey's years.

Don't forget NSA/GCHQ are tapping internet exchange points. They will know you want to get rid of the porn filter when you try to Google "BT filter removal hotline" before you even pick up the phone.
