Time and place to update your social media

I use the tube and walk around London a lot and 90% of the time it's women, head down, not looking at all. I've stopped moving out the way.

I don't get it, the constant need to google things ****es me off as well. How the **** are you meant to have a bar room debate when some **** keeps googling the answers?

I don't see how you can do it in London. I personally like to look at people, and watch things going on. I do enjoy social media, but when I've got a quiet time and place to do it or if it is "interesting" (subject obviously).

I agree Huddy, it's frustrating. It's also a little sad that people would rather interact with a phone than those around them. Yes, I'm one of those crazy people that actually enjoys talking to people. :p

What irritates me the most, and probably most other people, is the failure of that person to acknowledge the fact they are causing everyone around them an inconvenience because they're more interested in doing something for themselves rather than just walking to where they're going like everyone else is trying to do. As I said, I've stopped moving out the way, couple of dropped phones so far, always my fault of course!

It's just another symptom of how selfish and inconsiderate people are getting now.

One day I am going to 'accidentally' slap someones phone out of their hand as they walk along oblivious to everyone else.

That said, I saw someone reading a book whilst walking the other day, I did have visions of tripping them up...

Yes it is selfish - especially if people bump into you or don't see you. London commuting or walking is not the place to be immersed on your phone. Besides, it's not very street wise either. I bump into people enough as it is when I'm walking without any distraction, couldn't imagine how bad it would be when distracted!

It depends, if I'm walking out of the office, I'll be putting some music on for the walk home, just periodically glancing up so I don't smash into people.

But I get what you mean about these idiots who just walk around looking at their phone just walking expecting people to move.

I don't have a problem with that, it's just the people that walk an entire road without even glancing up once. I've seen so many people trip up, bounce into people, nearly get hit by cars and so on. Idiots.

When I was riding my bike I almost hit some idiot who decided to walk out in front of me, while glued to his phone.

Needless to say I got a torrent of abuse, as clearly I was the one in the wrong for having the cheek to ride my bike along the road perfectly legally.

The likes of Facebook and Twitter annoy the hell out of me. I just don't understand it, I'm not exactly that old !

I have a facebook account purely because some of my friends in the UK and a few other countries are nearly impossible to get a hold of by any other means. But I rarely check my facebook or even bother to read peoples posts.

Twitter I really do not understand at all in the slightest and annoys the hell out of me that companies now seem to think posting a tweet is a good way to let "everyone" know something is happening or whatever.

As for checking on my mobile, if I go out I go out to have fun with people socially so why would I even bother checking my phone. Quite a few times I have gone out without even taking my mobile. Yet I get asked “omg how can you go out without your mobile phone”..... so I’m the weird one for not having a mobile phone with me and checking it every 10 mins  bah

As a daily commuter travelling by train, I have plenty of time for social media just with waiting for the train and being on the train. Sometimes I think a Nintendo Game Boy would be more fun than my smartphone, certainly allow me to play a game without Facebook notifications coming through.

Text messaging has been mainstream since the late 1990s. Surely it was a problem back then too? I do write text messages while walking on the high street, but I tend to walk slower, and towards the meeting point e.g. Caffe Nero. The person who I'm texting is usually whoever I'm about to meet up with at Nero.

And nope, I'm not that silly bint who takes a photo of the panini that I'm eating inside Nero then update Facebook with it :p

You're going to have to go ahead and explain that one champ.

What is the difference between here and Facebook?
The only difference is I know people on Facebook but don't know anybody here, apart from that all the topics are the same.
Makes me laugh that people brag about not being on Facebook but spend all their time here instead talking about the same stuff.
