Girlfriend just got fired!

My problem with threads like this is this. We only get one side of the story. The OP's. Now I'm not saying the OP is wrong here but logically, to accurately evaluate any give circumstance, both sides of the story should be heard.

For all I know, the OP's GF could have been a complete **** at work and maybe that is the reason she was binned. I'm not saying it's true here, but it's plausible.

I would feel more able to offer an objective opinion on this if the employers could post too giving their reasons for her dismissal.

So for now, no sympathy from me but no condemnation either. I'm just not in a position to give a reasoned and valuable opinion.

I'm normally all for objectivity but I think you're going too far. It's Christmas and the man's home lost ~half (?) of it's income, a bit of compassion wouldn't hurt.

OP, try to see it as a bump on the road, I'm sure you two will be ok. A better job is probably just around the corner! :)

Firstly Christmas has nothing to do with it. Secondly, compassion should only be given when you know it's deserved. Thirdly, where did I go too far ? I was simply being rational and logical. My position was neutral. I was neither compassionate nor condemning.

I think you're being a drama queen.

My mum got dismissed on Wednesday there, gross misconduct apparently.

All for shutting a shop for 40 minutes whilst the tills that were down came back online and gave her the time to enter everything through the till before resuming business.

Name and shame.

It was 6 weeks. What exactly do they owe her? :/ They were paying her, she wasn't doing them a favour, was she?

Sorry to put the brakes on the pity-train.

It's recently changed to 2 years for some unknown reason before an employee gets any rights. God knows why though! Like an employer wouldn't know if their employee was suitable after a year.

source?
i remember it's only recently theres been a right hoohah about agency worked getting similar rights to propre employees.

Employees have the right not to be unfairly dismissed. In most circumstances employees will need to qualify before they can make a complaint to an employment tribunal:

at least one year's continuous service for employees in employment before 6th April 2012
two years for employees starting employment on or after 6th April 2012.

However, there is no length of service requirement in relation to 'automatically unfair grounds'.

Automatic grounds include dismissal because or race or colour etc

Sorry to hear that. Rubbish time of the year, what a tough situation :(

Fingers crossed that everything works out and you're able to get over the next few weeks okay.

And I think you're being rather heartless, but there we go.
