I guess this will be the same sort of situation as when you try to buy booze from a 16 year old. Sorry, I can't sell you that, so matey boy over there will do it for you.
If past experience is anything to go by this idea was thought up by a 40 year old white male who has little idea what a Muslim is, but he's damn sure bacon and alcohol offends them. Meanwhile the Muslim community will look at this utterly confused as to what it's supposed to achieve.
It's a stupid idea but it's a stupid idea that M&S has decided to do on their own. They haven't been forced to.
Format aside..this kind of non story is tabloid fodder. Besides The Telegraph has increasingly moved away from a broadsheet reporting model to a more tabloid orientated model since the early noughties. There was talk of an a actual change of format.
In any case, broadsheet or tabloid...it will not influence my shopping habits, neither will the fact that someone doesn't want to handle certain things due to their cultural or religious affectations.
All seems to be a bit of a storm in a teacup to me...engineered to inflame reactions and take advantage of the current Them and Us mentality pervasive in modern media.

It's completely ridiculous. Not sure what they expect to achieve from this.
What next, M&S allow them refuse to sell very short skirts to women and tell them to cover up more?
I shall refuse to handle any HDPE packaging on behalf of the environmentally conscious community, as it most likely could have been MDPE or LDPE, saving wastage.

No, no, no you have misunderstood. A silly book written 1000's of years ago says they can't so they are totally correct in refusing to handle something that the book has told them they cant eat , even if it is wrapped in sealed packaging!

I think the actual issue with this is that it appears, at a glance, to only apply to religious members of staff.
If you were told, for example, that you had to sell heroin addicts their methodone, and you didn't agree with it, would you still want to do it?
The law should apply to all, and not just individuals. The catch, I guess, comes when the staff can't do anything because they're refusing to sell things.
These people shouldn't get jobs in places where they could encounter products that offend them.

You could have the same argument with those selling cigarettes.
If you're employed to sell these goods in the shop, you'd sell them, that's your job. It's bloody ludicrous!

Anybody who lives in Stoke will tell you that nearly every corner shop is owned by Muslims and not one of them will refuse to sell you alcohol.
It also makes me laugh at the idiots who claim Muslims don't want us celebrating Christmas when it's the other way round because they want our money and it's the time of year where Stoke Muslims can line their pockets.
This is just a case of one Muslim who reads her own version of the Koran.

It's sad that yet again all Muslims will be criticised because of the actions of one idiot. This particular Muslim needs some education about what Islam really prohibits and what it does not. To kill two birds with one stone, this could come from her supervisor during her disciplinary at work for refusing to do her job. Problem solved

Unfortunately, the willingness of the government, the courts and big organisations to simply 'kowtow' to this minority of Muslims that cause these issues is just making relationships between our two cultures worse.
I am sure that there are many sensible and level headed Muslims who think this is a ridiculous idea as well.
