I want to help my friend upgrade his PC, he refuses to buy a new case etc but wants a new GPU. I am selling him my 6950 except I can't find out what PSU he has.

PC Name: Compaq Black CQ2723w

anyone got any tips? tried to use speccy to find PSU but guess there is none and don't know if he even has 2x 6pin

You'll have to remove the competitor link. Here are the relevant specs listed:

CPU and Memory:
•AMD Dual Core dual core.
•E1-1500.
•Processor speed 1.48GHz.
•4GB RAM.

Hard drive:
500GB SATA hard drive.

Graphics:
•Dedicated graphics.
•Shared graphics.
•AMD Radeon HD with 2000MB memory.

I know he does have a weak cpu, but he plans on upgrading later on... I agree he will have to start again and he is slowly.. he is upgrading mobo and gpu now, psu later on. even though i told him many times before purchasing this pc that it was a huge mistake.

will his PSU cope for a few months?

I'm going to say 'no'.

Can you not open up the case and have a look inside?

EDIT: Found more detailed specs here

And the CPU is soldered on. And the power supply...

Power Supply

External 65W (100V-240V)
Total wattage: 65W
Input voltage:
•100-127V (50-60Hz)
•200-240V (50-60Hz)
Output voltage:
•19V DC

Also you guys are sure his CPU is soldered?

I'm going to help him in a salvage mission and sell him some old parts.

Give him a ocz 500w psu, aerocool strike x one and a 6950 and he can reuse some old ****

What does he want from the upgrade? If his PC is anything like the one on that HP page and he wants to play games at decent (any?) settings, he's going to have to start again. Don't bother taking his current rig apart: just sell it as it is.

His just going to salve his HDD and other parts.. cpu too temporarily. His planning on getting a new case, new psu, gpu, mobo and cpu at a later date. just reusing ram and hard drive.

its intel 1150 so its good socket like
