E60 535d - OptionsBMW is comfortable,

No, you need the Sports Automatic Transmission option to get paddles. It was only a 90 quid option, its amazing how many people didn't spec it!

If you don't know what you want but fancy an E60, why not buy a much cheaper E60? You can buy a 272bhp 530i SE LCI model for under £10k now - much less money than a 535d.

£100 but :o :)

The only engine with comparable performance to a remapped 535d is the 550i, and as that manages 27 vs. 42 MPG, it's considerably more expensive if you are driving quite a lot. I average around 2000 miles per month, and it will peak up at 3000 per month.People often say that, but it completely ignores the most important part of the difference between a 3 and 5 (and on to a 7) - not the physical size, but the class/segment.

I don't feel above people driving old BMWs or 1-series in my F30.

Don't seriously say you fall for the old "Boxster = Poor man's Porsche" - evolved from some jealous idiots who couldn't afford Boxsters, or bitter 911 owners at the more-affordable new addition to the Porsche line-up (as was).

Do you know what a class/segment is when talking about cars?

Hi guys,

I've seen one with:

Head up Display
Comfort Access
Media Pack
Visibility Pack
19" Alloys
Comfort Seats
USB Audio
Adaptive Xenons
DAB Radio

I went to see it yesterday morning, and am going back for a 2nd viewing and longer drive on Saturday.

Seems well spec'd etc? It's in Carbon Black with cream leather. Initially I wanted black leather, but after seeing it inside I actually really like the cream leather!

Cheers,

Mal

Yeah quite possibly, how comes?

Because that is bonkers money to be spending on an E60, a car that came out 11 years ago. Especially one which is over the 60k warranty threshold meaning you either go it alone or pay the inflated £1500 a year rate.

A few grand more gets you an F10 530d - not much slower (It has the newer N57 245bhp engine) but a much better car, more modern, it's current, better interior and it'll cost you less despite costing a tad more because it won't depreciate quite like an old shape 5 Series will.

If you want an E60 buy a nice one for under £10k or don't bother, IMHO. They are just not cars to still be spending massive money on.

What does that 535d do that makes it worth almost twice as much money as the 530i maccapacca posted thats a similar age?! Nothing, thats the answer.

I'll be getting a discount. They seem to be holding their value well. Most are 15 to 18k but the cheaper ones are a lower spec or pre LCi.

What sort of discount? £5k?

They wont hold value for ever - it's an old shape 5 Series that was replaced 4 years ago. If your budget is £17k please look elsewhere, an E60 isn't a £17k car anymore unless it says 'M5' on the back. That one doesn't even have the decent iDrive.

You are only £4-5k away from the first facelift 3.0d XF's you liked, the residual performance (+lower running costs of the MUCH newer car) will likely mean it wont be any more expensive to own.

I would honestly rather own a 525d F10 for £17k of which there are plenty around, half the age, more modern, just a better car than an E60 IMHO.

This is nice, petrol too so probably smoother (not driven one, honestly the whole 5 series range sub £20k is confusing).

Thread saved.

Seriously Over Clocker, look at this. It's a current shape car, it's better than an E60, nice spec, pro nav, low enough mileage for warranty, fantastic 8 speed ZF gearbox and several years newer than that E60.

Why would you possibly want that 535d over that 528i?

If you want an E60, buy one like maccapaccas LCI for £9k. If you want to spend £17k on a 5 Series, buy something like that F10. I honestly can't see how that E60 makes any sense at all. It's silly money.

EDIT: 528i is a 4 cylinder????

Didn't the N20 engine win "Engine of the year" in 2012 and 2013? I'm trying to find the links to back that up.

I've got that engine in my 1 series, and it's really, really good. However if you want a 6 cylinder twin-turbo diesel, then it's not very good :P

EDIT: Nevermind, didn't realise that the 528i in that advert had the 6 cylinder engine.

That is indeed a lovely car, although it's pretty far from me!

I'll reconsider how important the speed is to me. Although not that keen on the look of the SE I could probably get used to it.
