Hello guys,

I have a Sky subscription what includes Sky line rental (dont have a house phone) with broadband (gets used a lot around the house), along with Entertainment+ (Only paid for channel that get watched is Disney XD) and HD Channels (F1 HD).

This costs me £60 a month and i have just decided i don't want to be paying this anymore as it is silly.

Would preferably be wanting to pay half of this and still get Disney XD and have Broadband (i know the phone line is needed unfortunately). I am not too bothered about F1 anymore, ill just download it elsewhere if i want to watch it

What are my options? Any of you dealt with something similar? Thanks

I got rid of my sky a few years ago, freeview only now you soon get use to it, I don't feel like im missing anything

I'm considering down grading, the quality if what's on offer is crap and I have the full package.

My gf records a lot of soaps to watch and when we've not got those stacked up we struggle to find anything decent, it's always the same repeated stuff.

I'm like you with f1, I'm not bothered by that anymore, total yawn feat.

I cancelled and got a 50% off for 12 months friends and family code. Brought our bill down to the low £30.00s for the full tv package, sports, movies and HD. Plus a new HD+ box and free intallation (not that the sky installer had to do much installing)

Sky also emailed me a 50% off for 12 months offer (separate to the F&F code) to try and get me to change my mind. So there are deals out there you just have to play hard ball with sky.

Edit

at 30ish quid a month it's just over £1.00 a day which is peanuts.

Last time I went to the cinema I paid almost that for the privilege of sitting next to some idiot who thought it was acceptable to talk through the film.

I'd much rather wait a while longer to watch a film in the comfort of my own home, with a beer and have the ability to pause the film if I need to go for a pee.

Well you obviously have no problems/morals/etc. about getting the television programs you're not actually entitled to see - so cancel the whole thing and "download everything" elsewhere would seem the cheapest option.

People say this a lot and I never understand it, there's a hell of a lot of decent US series on Sky, I've never once sat down and not had something to watch.

Sure, there is a lot of crap on there and a lot of repeats but there's still plenty of good, new stuff to watch. Delete the soaps and get her to watch decent stuff. :p

Freeview HD + US Netflix seems a decent compromise to me. I tape a lot of what I watch and its that convenience thats key...

ps3ud0

Lol was waiting for one of your lot to come. Download everything??? Quite a good plan, cheers Hun!

Anyway serious reply. I honestly watch nothing on sky anymore, if I am home I either sit on the lappy or xbone with my music on. Use to really enjoy the CI channel but they are all repeats now and I know every Topgear episode word for word.

Netflix, is this any better than Lovefilm and can it be had on the xbone? Think the Lovefilm app is pretty good.

Stoofa don't read this bit as you may burst. I have numerous friends and family with the top packages who have said I can use their account for F1 so I can just watch it on my xbone when it is on. So that sorts that out.

What are virgin like for broadband? Can't fault sky, always had 16MB down/2MB up with no connection issues at all to date.

Virgin seems to be a better provider for broadband speed but both Sky and Virgin are expensive.

If you want broadband speed, get Virgin but if you are a TV fanatic and want all channels known to the UK, then Sky is the preferable option as its cheaper than Virgin

Hasnt got disney XD but Im considering cancelling the TV, keeping the broadband and using this through Freeview

As you already have a dish and the wiring set up for it, you could easily move to Freesat HD, delivers more channels the Freeview but sadly not Disney XD. Something like Netflix might even up the balance however.

Agreed, I reckon I could quite easily watch 6+hrs of TV every day especially now there is On Demand stuff. One the rare occasions I have to dip into the depths of the planner I can always find something of interest. There's loads of highly rated shows I've never even found the time to give a chance! Repeats don't bother me either, I'm not bothered if something is 3 years old if it's good and I haven't seen it before.

Realistically even if 95% of TV were complete tosh, the remaining 5% is more than enough to fully occupy me as there are so many channels.

so essentially sky are saying: we've been pulling your pants down for years. here, pay what it's really worth.

OT: It seems like E4 et al have turned the Big Bang Theory into the new friends.

It's always on for hours on those channels.
