Pensioners face losing winter fuel allowance and bus passes as George Osborne vows to slash spending by £25BILLION after the 2015 election.

The Chancellor will insist today his brutal policies are working but warns: “There’s still a long way to go.”

The multi-millionaire Tory will ignore the plight of public services reduced to shreds and focus on tax giveaways to justify more slashing.

Speaking in the Midlands, he will say: “We’ve got to make more cuts. That’s why 2014 is the year of hard choices.”

Coming after David Cameron yesterday ducked questions about fuel allowances, bus passes and free TV licences, pensioners fear more misery at the hands of the Conservatives.

The PM pledged to keep the “triple lock”, if he’s re-elected, which means state pensions rise by at least 2.5%. But he refused to give the same guarantee for the rest.

He told the BBC: “We’ll set out plans in our manifesto.”

That was enough to alarm pensioner groups who said the lock was worthless if energy prices kept soaring.

The National Pensioners’ Convention’s Neil Duncan-Jordan said the current £110.15 a week was the second lowest in the developed world after Mexico.

He added: “We have add-ons because we don’t get a decent pension to travel on buses and heat our homes.”

As the election approaches, no party is likely to attack the triple lock. But Labour say they will strip fuel allowances from the richest 5% of pensioners. The Lib Dems would means test it.

But Mr Osborne’s aides made it clear he wanted new cuts after next year’s general election. And Mr Cameron signalled other welfare payments will be slashed - including housing benefit.

The PM also talked tough on immigration and Europe yesterday, after a poll showed 37% of those voting Tory last time wouldn’t do so again.

Half the defectors say they plan to vote for Nigel Farage’s UKIP party.

Mr Farage said: “David Cameron seems to be trying to sound like me. The thing is, I believe in what I say.”

I'm not wholly convinced of the accuracy of the 'news piece'. Where is it specified that bus passes and fuel allowance will be what is hardest hit? Everything else I have read hasn't been able to be specific as to what will be done to further reduce the deficit.

What is your views on this? I having perants over 70 I find this bad why not cut the youths money today as they not care if they get a job or not, but no they keep attacking the wrong people like OAP's.

If one replies to this post none of this ow they don't need all this money they be dead soon anyway stuff. I see too much of this stuff these days.

What?

Unimpressed! Some oaps barely have enough to get by on pensions let alone removing some of the benifits.

Ok if they earn over a certain amount from pensions fair enough but to remove the fuel allowance for the ones who dont earn much is just asking for deaths.

You'd of thought hed of kept this quiet until after elections this would defiantly push the majority of older age votes another way. Considering how many oaps there are its neigh on suicide surely.

Seriously? This has to be trolling!

I'm glad a non-partisan news agency like The Mirror has brought this to light.

Yup.

The fact there is absolutely no mention of getting rid of them, the fact they have instead promised to look after pensioners is clear evidence that they are about to cut them.

It's bare faced lies they've printed unfortunately simple folk like the OP will just read the headline and believe it. Lol OP and lol mirror readers.

This. So basically, as the PM has not said that the government will not do something, the Mirror - that foundation of accurate, unbiased reporting - has concluded that he will do it. I love the logic of the double negative

Quick! Someone pass me an enigma machine so I can crack and understand this post! :p:confused:

I don't read news papers they are full of ***p and way.

Nice to see attack's to op and most do these days.

I had this article from a facebook page that helps OAP's that are needing help with online stuff.

What an utterly ridiculous point of view. The exact people who should be targeted for cuts are the ageing generations. Who the hell else can afford to be? Young people? Don't be so naieve.

I could just reply that the youth are the future. Not all of us, but 'those' are in every age group. For me, if there was nothing to help us pay our tuition fee's over time, then I'd say there could be about 5% who may be able to afford it. But probably wouldn't. I think we need stricter rules on the heating allowance given to OAP's, I've heard a lot about those getting it who are just spending it on flights or taking it abroad as their spending money. They don't need it!

Or I could just reply with 'no one care about OAP they smell funny."

My 84 year old Nan always complains that the people she knows spend their fuel allowances on things other than fuel, so I don't really see it as being essential.
