I went to the Oral and maxillofacial clinic today at the hospital and got my tongue looked at by a specialist. I'm now booked for a tongue biopsy next wednesday and I'm nervous of the procedure and the result.
My tongue is patchy, looks just like geographic tongue, with a small slightly sore lesion near the tip. Before xmas, my dentist referred me to go the specialist maxillofacial clinic when he saw a small depapillated smooth patch on my tongue, which tbh, has come and gone over the last year or two. He wasn't overly concerned, he said it doesn't look sinister but recommended I go. I said ok. The next week, I saw two female doctors at my local surgery who didn't have a clue, but also referred me to the oral and maxillofacial clinic to be checked properly by people that look at tongues everyday. While I awaited the appointment, I went to the walk in clinic at my local hospital on boxing day. Saw a doctor there who was 99% sure it was oral thrush and said use Daktarin oral gel 4 times a day. Finally, mind at rest. I've been taking Daktarin oral gel since boxing day but it doesn't seem to have cleared it. Mind not at rest! The specialist I saw today doesn't think there'll be anything sinister, she thinks some sort of infection or geographic tongue, but needs to look at a sample under the microscope to at least rule out anything malignant. She doesn't think it's going to be anything malignant, and thinks I'm worrying too much. But I can't help worrying. Anyone had a tongue biopsy? I believe it's about a 15 minute procedure, local anaesthetic injected into my tongue, then they cut away tiny bits of the affected area of tongue, and stitch it up. I'll be given painkillers for when the anaesthetic wears off and apparently can eat later the same day. I'm scared
. Should I be? Btw, I did the candida test a few days ago, spit into a glass of water first thing in the morning, leave for a few minutes to half an hour, and if tentacles come down into the water, or if the water goes cloudy, you have a yeast infection. Thing is, that proved positive for me. So I dunno, maybe it actually is/was some yeast infection and maybe it's a slow process for the tongue to recover. It's all guesswork though which is why I'm having the damn biopsy. I'm alright with dentists injections, but, the tongue..
