i copied this from richer sounds

The numbers given relate to the number of HDMI inputs/outputs.8 in/2 out
USBNumber of USB sockets.1
PC InputCan a computer be plugged in?No

when it says pc input no, i assume it means no dvi or vga rather than stopping me connecting the pc with hdmi?

Does anyone know if this amp or another at similar price displays info such as volume, surround mode etc on the TV screen when you make changes. (I cannot see my amp at all as in cupboard)
Earlier reply wasnt clear Thx

Do you think the sony will be a big improvement on the onkyo sr508. even if i am using the same tannoy speakers and sub(i cant find the model number of the speakers i believe they were tannoy sfx 5.1)

this will be used for playing games on ps4 / ps3 or pc and streaming netflix / crunchyroll / iplayer / bluray.

No, the only way to see it is go into settings.

Really tempted with this over the Marantz alternative since i have a Sony setup with the TV and PS3 (soon to be PS4 maybe).

All depends on what the DLNA is like and how well it works with WHS on my HP Microserver.

Edit:
Also, can someone tell me whether the Airplay works in standby mode? i.e. can you play music over airplay and it automatically turns on?

I can confirm that it can't I am afraid.

You can only send music to the amp, however to the Apple TV you can send video, such as youtube or movies on your phone, or apps such as Catchuptv.

I have had this amp since before Christmas and it performs well. Just as well as my old Onkyo 608 did. The Onkyo I still have but it's away getting a new HDMI board.

The review echoes my own experience with the amp.

Well, that's damn shame. Bit of a mistake on Sony's part i think. The Marantz SR*008 series has IP Control function, when set to "Always On" it uses slightly more standby power but can automatically come on when DLNA/AirPlay data is sent.

Also, Taylor Swift?..... Seriously?

Edit:

Just found this in the manual:

While the “Network Standby” mode is set
to “On”, the receiver can always be
connected and controlled over the network.
• On: The network function works even
when the receiver is in standby mode, and
resume operations when controlled over
the network.
• Off: The network function turns off when
the receiver is in standby mode. The
receiver takes more time to resumes
operation when powered on again.

Can someone give this ago and see if it works with Airplay? TIA :)

Mine arrived yesterday.

It was nice and easy to set up, the wizard got most of the settings right although I did tweak them a little, the sub was the only thing that was way off.

So far I've tried some Dolby Digital programs on Sky HD, a couple of blu ray action scenes with Dolby True HD on the PS3 and some 320Kbps MP3s from my home server.

I've yet to try the mobile app, the on screen GUI works well but the remote is very cluttered, I'm sure they could have moved some of that in to the GUI instead.

The video pass throughs all work which will simplify things for others in the house, as do the HDMI device controls for fewer remotes. I might still look for an all in one / harmony type thing though.

I'm not using WiFi or zone 2, and I've not tried the internet radio apps yet, I'll be mostly using DLNA from my server for the music side.

Happy so far though, Sky, Blue rays and MP3s all sound good.

Hi guys./ Can those of you who have the STR-DN1040 give this a go for me please. My finger is hovering over the "buy" button currently. :p

Many thanks.

well i have encountered a weird problem, after working fine for just over 2 weeks suddenly it will not play any sounds over pcm. if it's playing dts or dolby the sound works fine.

Hi, i've got some monitor audio BX5's and was wondering if the sony str-1040 amp would be a good pair or would the Yamaha RX-V675 be better ?
