Flying to Canada

What's the big deal with IFE, does no one have laptops or tablets in 2014? I consider IFE to be old hat, great in the 90's before personal entertainment devices, but obsolete now.

My tablet doesn't have the latest new release movies on it, a decent IFE.system does. That's why for me it's preferable to a tablet. The screen is also better positioned for 10 hours of viewing than being hunched over a tablet.

Nonsense. If it's so obsolete, why does almost everyone on every long-haul flight still use it?

I lean the other way - I'd rather take my tablet. The screen is larger and better quality than anything I've seen on an IFE and I've got the selection of movies (and games and books and magazines) that I want to watch.

The only issue is battery life.

And it is just something else to carry...

Oh right, my tablet does... can even mount it in any position I want and run any application I want on it, seems like a no-brainer.

Same reason people everywhere use obsolete technology?

Thats very impressive, how did you manage to fill it with stuff thats not yet on general DVD release?

thy, ignorance, poverty/cheapness to name a few.

I have a tablet - I took it on my last trip and used it on the outward flight as it didn't have on-demand IFE. On the way back I did have on-demand IFE so the tablet stayed in my bag. So, clearly apathy, poverty and cheapness didn't factor in my decision.

Infact the presence of the word 'poverty' in a thread about long-haul descretional air travel highlights how tenuous your argument has become I think :p

I found my Note + a smartphone kickstand to provide a better viewing experience than the screens in flight - Head resting on the pillow gazing down at the screen rather than up which is uncomfortable depending on how you're sitting.

Whatever though, the choice is what matters.

I don't have an opinion regarding flying to Canada except for the fact that I fly to Canada with Air Transat because it's cheap. :p

However, I would agree that good IFE is worth using. I used it a lot on the four return transatlantic flights that I went on in 2013. It was in business class on BA (with complementary noise canceling headphones) though, granted.

So essentially then IFE is pointless because you can 'aquire' cam rips of the latest cinema releases instead, that sounds like a sound argument that will definatley work for everyone :p

It will work for some people but not too sure about you. :p
