if you are looking to trade in your laptop or sell it, I would advice not to unless
you have a half decent store

there's 2 stores I've been to now, which have sent off price requests for my laptop.. both times they have sent the price request with lesser specs than my laptop has so they can buy it for cheaper..I find this very disturbing.. first of all one store typed in I had an i3 2328 instead of i5 3230m..how did I know this? once the price request has come through, the item will appear on their site.. before the price request my model was not on their site.. but it now was..but with the specs as i3 which they never made in my model..also the price they offered me was the same as the 'i3' spec..so ok I declined their price of £230 trade in, knew what they was up to..I took it to another CEX thinking they can't all be like this..ok this time I get offered £270 the next day..they sent in another price request.. I had initially thought they got it right this time till I checked their site they had wrote I had windows 7 instead of windows 8(even thought full well knowing it was w8 after they asked me 3 times then checked for themselves)..which changes the price by quite abit.. as the laptop with lesser specs on their with w8 is going for £313 trade in but they had put mine as windows 7 to get the price cheap..

they still have it ' testing ' it after they 'test' it I am going to decline trading it in.

just a word of warning guys.. thought id let you know how sly these people are.

had a friend try to sell his old dvds/phones and was told they do not carry cash only give store credit, happened at a few stores too. MM as suggested above!

Had this myself, however it was a mistake on their behalf, not a scam. Took my 3ds in for trade in, got £83 with a few games and was happy enough, came in a few days later and see it out on display marked as a dsi xl, so i check my receipt, and i have only been paid for a dsi xl. however got it sorted, handed in the receipt and came back 2 days later and got the 45 quid i was owed

Doesn't surprise me at all. These sort of shops just take advantage of the fact that the majority of their 'customers' are desperate for some quick cash.

I suspect it's a matter of the staff both not caring and also not knowing anything about the stuff they buy or sell.

In fairness to them however, it can be quite difficult to find a spec for a discontinued laptop, and they're probably told not to trust a word you tell them about it.

CEX are clearly run by monkeys. You only have to look at the hilarious amount of PS4 stock they have and the price they are trying to sell them at now after buying 1000's of them for £400-£430 pre xmas. They want £395 for a unit that they couldn't guarantee wasn't used to a certain degree when RRP PS4 stock for £350 is becoming more and more readily available.

The last time I went to CEX it was to trade in my PSP, I handed it over the counter, and the guy immediately opened the UMD door with such force that he snapped the hinge, then closed it again. (Unintentionally, I think/hope.)

He then had the cheek to say he couldn't take it because it had a broken UMD door.

*£315 is the price they bought them for and are buying them for now

What a shock, a ***** shop doesn't treat it's ***** customers very well :p

When they started as one shop in Central London only dealing with computer stuff they were quite good but expansion put an end to all of that.

£285 according to their website.

But everyone bought one for £350 and sold it to CEX for £400 or £430 a pop before xmas. I laughed as their stock level went up and up. They were trying to sell them for £520...(you could get guaranteed brand new ones for a lot less than that on ebay).

Who is going to buy one from CEX, even at RRP now, when it might be used and you can just get it from John lewis for example for £350? The most they can hope to get is £300. Using just their online stock figure that still adds up to at least £122,000+ up the ****er

Not a lot of money for a company with 300 stores worldwide I bet...

This is the truth,

Back in the days when OcUK were small I used to shop a lot along Tottenham Court Road, CEX were good back then.
