As an Everton fan I grew up knowing success (when I was very young). I have had my fair share of final day heart attacks, we didn't so much flirt with relegation but got taken around the back of the sheds and ******! Especially coming close in a must win match against Wimbledon when we were 2-0 down!

Please fully star out all swearing in future. Thank you.sorry

Moyes steadied the ship, turned us into a respectable club and was more adventurous than people give him credit for. But he rarely made a substitution in a match that changed the result, always reactive instead of proactive.

Martinez has been a breath of fresh air and we still have the best defence in the league!

I don't know if we will get in the champions league but we have a good as chance as the teams around us.

So thanks moves, I loved you but I have a younger, sexier (football) model now and I'm smitten.

The footballs definitely better to watch. It's early days, we wont finish any higher but if you went every week at least you are being entertained. Moyes lack of money and spending has provided a good foundation for Martinez to build onto. The real test will be when he has to rebuild that defence himself.

We seem to have a bit more money to spend at the minute that he can take advantage of, he has moyes to thank for staying within the budget constraints or not walking because of it.

I'm grateful for Moyes efforts but I do now think it was time for both parties to move on.

Once Moyes players are gone. We will see how good Everton really are. Right now you may be playing better football but it's all well knowing Moyes' defence is there still.

You won't get CL.

most of the team was bought by Moyes, thats obvious. I panicked when I seen who Martinez bought at the beginning of the summer but in McCarthy and Barry we have a new midfield engine that has been excellent. Martinez tried to sign Stones so he can count as a Martinez player and Alcarez has slotted in well for the 3 games hes been fit  so we will see..

I like Martinez, but there's a long way to go before he can be declared a great success. You'll do well to get a like for like replacement for Lukaku next season, too.

It was nice to actually win some games before Christmas for once. Moyes seems to have taken his "let's not start the season 'til the New Year" thing to United (although I'm not sure when their new year is going to start!).

I did read it suggested that Moyes so massively overdoes the workload in preseason training that it takes the players several months to recover. I know nothing about the physiology of it, but it certainly sounds like something he'd do.

Also, it wasn't just his subs that were reactive, it was his entire team selection. He'd always pick a team aimed at countering the opposition's strengths. The best teams always pick their best team and say "you try and stop us doing what we want".

I like Martinez as well and I'm also happy Moyes has left for Man United :)

Another qualifying round exit would be hard to take I'd imagine.

And another feeling of injustice for us evertonians.. Comprehensively beaten 2-0 by Fiorentina at Goodson. Went there and battered them. 1-0 and a perfectly good Duncan ferguson goal to level the tie was ruled out because he's tall!

Not at all, getting through and playing extra games with our squad would worry me more. I highly doubt we could then maintain a decent league position next year with CL football or even that other European milk cup or whatever it's called.

It's highly unlikely we will sign Lukaku and replacing him will be the priority in the transfer window in the summer.

We weren't beaten comprehensively by Fiorentina 2-0. We were beaten 2-1 by Villarreal at Goodison, and it was 1-1 at El Madrigal when Ferguson's header was (wrongly) ruled out by Collina. Get it right :p

As a long time Everton fan who also remembers success (I was there when we won the league in 1985 and 1987), I'm really happy with the football we're playing this season. It's the most entertaining I've seen from us since that mid 80s team. Moyes work at Everton should never be underestimated, no matter how things are going for him at Man Utd. He turned Everton from a team that was constantly trying to avoid relegation into a team that was consistently challenging for the European spots every season. He did it on a tiny budget and he deserves as much credit as possible for what he did for Everton. However, it was definitely the right time for him to move on, and though I was wary of Martinez when he arrived, he has left the mean defence alone and added flair and creativity going forward.

I don't think this is a new dawn for Everton, at least not yet. The teams above us simply have too much money for us to realistically challenge them over multiple seasons. With some of our key players getting older and will need replacing in a few years, that will be the real test for Martinez. Can he replace players like Distin, Jagielka and Howard and keep the same defensive toughness that we have now? If he can do that, I think we could definitely have a good future ahead of us.

Lukaku has gone on record saying he would sign for us if we got Champions League football. That of course means we have to finish in the top 4, somehow convince Chelsea to sell him, and then somehow find the money to pay for him (I don't see him going for less than £15-20m).

Unless they loan him out again. They've not been shy loaning out excellent players in the past... and obviously loaning to a Premier League team hurts their rivals.
I'm not convinced Mourinho actually likes Lukaku. It was obvious from Lukaku's form for WBA last season that if he's in a team that creates a lot of chances, he'll bang the goals in. Considering the form of Chelsea's other attackers, I'm surprised they let him leave. I'm not complaining, but I do wonder if Jose has something against him.
