I purchased something from Ebay which was not as described so returned it by recorded delivery (item was about £45)

It did not arrive, there is no tracking info and the seller says it did not arrive

I filed a lost item report and finally after over 2 months I get a letter

"we wrote to Mrs xxxxx requesting confirmation of whether or not the item arrived but have not had a reply, I am therefor ASSUMING that we have delivered the item"

So on no evidence whatsoever they ASSUME it was delivered, clowns

They have included a pack of 6 stamps a reimbursement :p

stamps and snotty letter on their way back to them

They are terrible, I sold something one ebay for my mum last week, posted Royal mail second class Saturday morning. Buyer emailed yesterday saying they have not received it so looks like I am going to try and claim next week.

6 stamps as compensation must have felt like a slap in the face mate. Is there anyway you can push the issue further up the chain?

Royal Mail need to do 2 things, 1. Raise prices, 2. Hire enough staff to keep up with the volume

Currently posties and mail center staff are so overworked it's no surprise they're losing mail.

They're trying to maintain their position as a cheap postal service but they just don't have the staff to maintain the quality, it's nonviable, they either need to be quality and people need to accept quality isn't cheap. Or they just go on trying to be cheap and in 20 years they're not longer going to exist.

The workers are probably sabotaging on purpose out of resentment of their jobs soon to be replaced by armies of minimum wage immigrants.
They need to take a leaf out of other companies books and offer services like home pickups like parcel monkey etc.

They wrote to them. via letter?

You should ask them to provide tracking information for this letter to prove it arrived.. and if not write to the intended recipient yourself !

Sold my shares last week so not fussed about RM anymore :D

Raise prices........not going with that one, I can send a package for less with other companies & I get better service.
They need to sort out their pricing that's for sure, but in today's market there are other options so a price hike doesn't sound like it would work.
I'm not going to argue on the overworked/understaffed part though.

got address of escalation dept, snotty letter on it's way

I have received a letter today in relation to item reference KF300633774GB
In truth I am shocked by the absolute ridiculous nature of this
In your letter it says

"we wrote to Mrs xxxxx requesting confirmation of whether or not the item arrived but have not had a reply, I am therefor ASSUMING that we have delivered the item"

So on no evidence you ASSUME it has arrived, it is a signed for service you cannot just assume, how absolutely ridiculous

I was in dispute with the other person re the transaction so it is unlikely she would want to assist in this

If it has been delivered then provide signed proof, if it has not then please deal with the claim in a professional manner

I have already wasted more time and expense on this than it is probably worth but after this letter I will pursue this as far as possible on principle
I have enclosed your "book of 6 stamps" as I do not accept your offer

so they lose 1 in a half a million items ? Not bad tbh. Go buy a lottery ticket might win that too.

That response in the OP is shocking though. Assume... lol. Amazing wording.

My wife purchased a plate from eBay. It turned up yesterday, a well packaged box wrapped in plastic filled with bubble wrap. The plate however is completely broken in half.

Good job, they are most likely hoping your are going to give up on it but be persistent, as you say its not just the money its the principle that you pay for a service get let down and they just don't want to be responsible for it.

Pretty disgusting IMO.

Did she check she wasn't buying used stock from a Greek restaurant?

I'm not saying that this is maccy's fault but it probably is.

It's your fault. Always.

Rotty - I always use special delivery now, nothing else is worth the hassle.
