new 290 again!

I'm beginning to wonder if a lot of these Black Screening 290's are actually caused by some external incompatibility.

PCIe-2 when PCIe-3 is needed?
PCIe 4x / 8x when 16x is needed?
Older Motherboard incompatibility?
and so on......

Seems a little strange if people are getting the same issue over and over again with replacement GPU's

How do explain people getting replacements that work fine with nothing in the system changing?

I'm sorry but I have installed around 12 290 cards in various systems and NONE of them had the black screen issue....
user causeing damage here?

You would literally defend AMD at all costs wouldn't you?

What if I was to tell you there's at least 12 people from this very forum alone who've suffered black screen issues?

Yeah just PEBKAC mate

I am lolling.

I wouldn't defend them to the end... at least they don't actively kill cards with poor drivers ;)

Might just be an Incompatible system. but meh

Oh hush now, why are you trying to have an argument over absolutely nothing?
I'm not replying to any of your silly words again. I have many more things to do.

Over nothing? If you think your posts are nothing then don't post.

Calling people out saying it must be user error is just stupidly dumb when the black screen issue is widely known.

From my experience there is no black screen issue, in MY experience from fitting a dozen of them...
yes i have seen that people experience this black screen issue and in the OPS case all of his have been like it... which tbh sounds like user error to me.
That's my assumption based on the situation.

Out of the group of people I regularly game with (old clan mates, RL friends, etc.) I know of atleast 10 people who have bought 290 series cards and atleast 4 that I know of have had to RMA due to the blackscreen (or redscreen) issue and seems to be a theme if you read around many tech forums. I know 2 had RMA replacements that seemed to work fine, the others I've either not heard back from or went for 780/780tis instead of messing about.

I think its stretching credibility to ascribe it to user error at this point.

If it was user error, why are people getting replacements that work?

How can it be user error? Its a graphics card not exactly the hardest thing to install. At most it requires a bios update and a driver sweep.

If I'd had 2 faulty cards I'd say bugger that and get something that works

Red screen issue is cpu/dram voltage being too low, or unstable overclock on cpu/dram/timings. Nothing to do with a 290.

Its definitely (atleast this specific red screen) an issue related to the 290 in the systems I'm aware of it happening with.

Add 1 more to that, RMA found the card faulty ( black screen ), cash waiting for this mantle palarva before i decide between a 780 or another 290.

If they're on Windows 8, as i suspect they are, its not gpu related. 290's don't cause red screens. Black screens maybe. :p

I'd be telling whoever it is to look elsewhere for the cause of the red screen. Had a bit of experience with the red screen on Windows 8 myself on a few different pc's.

yup had it myself, had to adjust some voltages.
