Hey Guys,

Just curious to know what you guys do, when you have finished using your PS4 do you generally turn it off completely? Or put it in standby mode?

If you leave her in standby mode, how long for usually? Or would you only do that if you where gonna use the PS4 again soon?

Cheers

Does it not lose its date\time settings if its powered off completely? I'm sure the 360 used to :o But I'm getting old, memory could be cloudy :D

I suppose there should be some kind of sync going on with an internet connection

I normally power down completely but If I'm taking my vita out with me to work or back home at my folks I will leave on standby for the remote play feature. If I decide not to use the vita I can power down remotely anyway.

Only time I leave mine in standby is if I want to charge the pad, other than that I see no real need. Updates download fairly quickly for me anyway, and trophy syncing isn't important.

Perhaps if I used my Vita for remote play more, but I don't :(

Standby, but I turned off the option to "Power USB" in standby because there seems to be a bug whereby if that is enabled, the fans still whirl (albeit it quietly) in standby mode.

Pretty much this apart from I never leave it in standby because I charge my pads using the phone charger.

The pads use the exact same lead/connection my phones/tablets use, so it's far easier to plug them into my phone charger than into the console.

Standby is only good if you have a crap internet connection so it can auto-download updates, or if that's how you charge controllers or if your really impatient and cannot wait the 5-20 mins it takes to download an update.

If I see there is an update for BF4 I will simply just play fifa or war thunder instead until it has downloaded.

It's great to have the option every time you turn it off as if you know there is a HUGE update headed online for a game you can choose to leave it on standby for a few nights for when it hits.

I leave mine on standby from time to time in case of overnight updates or for remote play but mostly I power off completely, it's the suspend/resume play option I'm really looking forward to, that update can't come quick enough

I leave it on standby. For no real reason at all - just because I do. I never turn anything off at the plug to be honest. Sometimes it's just left ON even when I'm not using it for an hour. Again, no real reason other than I'm often so busy back and forth with things I just forget, or lose track of time etc.

I put it on the other day, then just sat talking to the wife and looking at hol ideas on the laptop then realised PS4 has been sitting on log in screen for 2 hours. haha...this happens quite a lot!

I don't see how not wanting to sit through a long update process makes someone "really impatient". If the Standby option is there you might as well use it for the sake of convenience.

Why not play another game instead for 5 mins? I like the way it works but I would prefer if they also had a 3rd option which was the old way of doing things.

Turning the console on at a set time to check for updates, if there are none, turn off again, if there are some, download them and then turn off.

Leaving it on standby when i only have 3 games at the moment I play seems a waste when updates at best are like once a month.

When I get more games standby will be the way to go, for now I will just play another game for the 5 mins it takes for it to update.

Whenever a big patch is coming we are usually told in advance in those cases I will leave it on standby until the patch is out and done then go back to turning it off.

I just don't see the point in standby atm when i have a small catalogue.

Always leave mine in standby mode......most electronic devices these days are designed to sit in standby mode (TV etc.).....I also read that electronic components are under the most stress when going from stone cold to charged with electricity, so keeping it on in low power mode (standby) seems most practical.

Plus updating while your away and charging the controllers.

I cant see why you would ever have a reason to actually turn it fully off, unless you are trying to save the 3p a month standby electricity would cost.

I doubt that standby mode and it being off are any different tbh in the stress level of going from either of those to full power.

Even when it is "off" you can still turn it on using a DS4 from the other side of the room, so it is actually in standby just in a lower state of it.

So it is Standby, Standby with update and charging on, the only time it is truly off is when you plus the plug out or turn the switch off at the socket.

Because I usually sit down to play a specific game, not play something else while the game I want to play updates and then eventually get round to playing it. Besides, for those of us on slower internet connections (unthinkable, I know) current update sizes can mean a fairly long download time. If there are ways around that, it makes sense to use them.
