So basically I have a watch that requires specialist equipment to change the battery and needs to be sent away.

Every time it is sent away I risk it being 'cloned'

It depends where you send it. I only buy and have maintenance done at Micheal Spiers. I wouldn't send one of my Omegas off to some backstreet place...they could swap it for a good replica (£200) and then sell it for a grand. The papers and box etc can be copied also. Huge market in fake watches. A friend of mine owns about 5 replicas (and also the real ones), when he goes out at night he wears the reps in case he gets mugged or some girl he pulls nicks it.

Just phoned the lady who took it to the jewellers for me, she has it.
Not enough time to clone it then I suspect.

I will go and get it and take some photos.

My mum had every diamond replaced with glass one time she had a ring cleaned, never found out till the next time she went in a different place and they asked why she was bothering cleaning cut glass.

Yeowch!

Well it's back looks original, question is? Is it worth owt?

Doesn't seem to show the price they sold it for? Anyway, even with the engraving on yours, looking at the other models on sale I get the impression that the offer of £100 might be a tad on the low side

Fingers crossed.
Really tempted to sell it, my Grandad meant a great deal to me, yet I still have his WW2 knives and Royal Engineers hat badge.
The strap is original and despite the fact he only owned it 6 months still smells of his pipe tobacco.

That period is not very fashionable with collectors and quartz is also much less desirable so i wouldn't get too excited just yet.

I have my grandfather's watch on one side and great grandfathers on the other, they could be worth a lot or nothing but to me they are worth more in my possession than in cash.

I'd like to know it's value but it would be a keeper for me.

I think the quartz movement is the value killer here. And the 18k is gold plate I would assume.

From all I know the case is solid 18k, there is nothing to suggest anywhere it is otherwise.
The watch is very slim, almost feminine, this combined with the quartz movement is the reason I am not keen. The soft gold case, is very easy to mark or damage and its not really a watch you want to wear after a few pints.

I've had a reply from watches.co.uk

"Thankyou for your email, unfortunately this watch would not be for us.
It might be worth you trying eBay or Amazon Market Place.
Good luck selling it on."

eBay?? No chance - bah!!
