RC Helicopters

Can anyone assist me?

I have a Walkera 22E (35mhz) and the transmitter has died, I am having trouble finding a replacement. Everything seems to be 2.4ghz Digital now and I don't think it's easy to convert it?

Can some one point me in the direction of a suitable replacement TX?

getting the swash plate level and setting the pitch, always getting one servo that is out

Im no expert, but you level the swash plate the best you can using the 'ball linkages' (take one end off and give it a twist so it gets shorter/longer). Then use the sub trims on the transmitter to fine tune the heli. There are videos on youtube that will help you.

Just did a quick search, this might help - http://forum.heliguy.com/guide-how-to-level-your-swashplate-t5908.html

I think the Walkeras have a weird PCM so you can't just use any old 35mhz transmitter. :(

You'll have to search for one, or go to a 2.4ghz system by replacing the 4in1 as well.

You can buy 4in1's and transmitters as long as they fit it will be fine.

The first step of setting up a swash is the radio setup.
You need to ensure all trims are centred and that no sub-trim is applied in the sub-trim menu.
Power up your system (with the motor disconnected for safety) then put your servo arms on as near to 90 degrees as you can physically achieve, some may be perfect, others may be out a few degrees.
It then depends on whether or not you are using a flybarless controller.
But if it is a standard, flybared helicopter, you then use the subtrim menu in your radio to get all servo arms level in a neutral position.

I should be noted that the radio will need to be set to zero pitch, for me this is mid stick, otherwise your settings will be wrong.

Perhaps sided isn't the right word. :)

The way the teeth on the servo and the horn line up with the teeth on the horn isn't normally even when the servo is centered. So if the arm sticks out at 90 degrees if you pull it off, turn it round so the left arm is where the right arm was and put it back on again it you probably wont be able to put it back at 90 degrees.

I've noticed it on most servos although it's harder to see on ones with finer teeth.

Get it as close as you can physically then you use the sub trim setting in your transmitter to correct this.
Flybarless controllers also are capable of correcting this mis-alignment.

I like to set up everything as close as possible mechanically and then use the electronics to get the last bit.
The time it takes to whip a horn off and try it the other way is close to setting it on the transmitter!

Thank you. I am taking it to a model shop Saturday to see what they suggest. I will look into the 4 in 1's I would like to go to 2.4ghz as I plan on building a Quad at some point so it would be nice to just buy the one transmitter.

Well i decided to get into flying heli's after playing around with a 3ch heli i decided to order the honeybee v2 since i heard its a great heli to train on anyone else have any exp on these helis? tips?

Really want to get into 3d flying at some point was going to order a 6chan but a lot of forums around seem to be against it for 1st time flyers etc.

Had my honeybee v2 for a few years now, crashed it lots but its easy to repair and lots of spares available. If its your first time then id suggest getting the training gear and putting that on makes the helicopter easier to lift off and land and stops it from crashing to earth with a massive bang, will save you numerous new blades.
Another tip is if your flying it outdoors (which i only do) make sure its a calm day as the bee doesnt like wind, it will get thrown about all over the place.

Its worth looking at some of the youtube videos, these will tell you how to setup the bee and repair it, get a few extra lipo batteries too and a better charger, the one that comes with the bee aint that good.

If you cant afford phoenix sim than another good one that works well with the honeybee's controller is clearview rc. You can crash as many times as you want :)

If you want to venture into 3d why didn't you go with a 6ch model from the outset? I've never seen a heli forum recommend anything less than a 6ch to start with.

My first heli was a trex550.....with a dx7s radio. Maybe a little big looking back but I would probably go with a blade130x if I were to do it again. Flies like a bigger heli and crash costs are pennies at most.
